I think a pop star should write their own songs, have a good voice, make catchy songs, or just be really hot for me to like her, and Katy Perry is none. Just Dance is at catchy, and Katy Perry just shouts at me from the radio.

I also realize my criteria for what I like in a pop song are pretty dumb and reductive.

Where do you guys even hear of these hookers? I think you're all doing it wrong.

when The Gaga Renaissance happened, it made me realize how marginally talented and crazily annoying katy perry is, and then ke$ha came along and it made me realize that katy perry really wasn't thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat baaaaaaaaaad

"Tik Tok" is better than either "Just Dance" or "I Kissed A Girl" - even though it sounds like some weird midpoint between "Love At First Sight" and Uffie via Pink.

the thing about "just dance" is that even tho it's derivative in general & by nature, it felt kind of fresh when it first hit, especially lyrically as i said way back when in that taxonomy thread. "tik tok" with autotune & "just dance"-esque lyrics feels super derivative of the moment which is my main objection with it (also it's musical theifdom of kylie)

I think "Just Dance" maybe didn't sound fresh to me because Australian would-be-dance-divas trying to hook up PAs at gay clubs have been releasing stuff like it for maybe the last 7 years or so - mostly failed. Somehow this is one genre (alongside annoying Oz rap X acoustic guitar and sad choruses cross) where I received every single possible release to review for my local singles column.

i haaaaate "tik tok" in a way i never really hated "i kissed a girl" or "just dance" - IKAG was a catchy tune sung annoyingly and allied to a dodgy narrative, JD was just bog-standard who-cares electro made irritating by gaga's persona - "tik tok" is just HORRIBLE MUSIC. and it's like, ke$ha's persona is one i want to like (cf paris hilton, tila tequila, paradiso girls stanning passim) but i just can't cuz she does it so wrong.

basically "tik tok" is too clumsy to dance to and ke$ha is not the kind of girl you'd want to party with, she's the kind of girl who you'd have to kick out of a house party for doing something really gross like pissing in the sink

ke$ha i can take or leave at this point but im man enough to admit that gaga has grown on me in a way katy perry never has
