Depressing, first Harvey, now Fernandez, something must be wrong surely.

That's awful. Throw Strasburg in, too--I don't know, is it even worth all the caution? Or maybe just don't ever bring up a pitcher until he's 22.

Harvey debuted at 23...just picking numbers out of the air, but so much for that theory.

On this podcast, one of the guests says he was particularly alarmed by JF throwing his curveball 54 times in one game. Something to do with supination and pronation.

Anyway, hard throwing + MLB intensity + extreme velocity = busting your arm, it seems.

I wonder if converted catchers are the new market (in)efficiency(?) in pitching. those dudes werent throwing sliders at 13. then again kenley jansen is one of the few to be super successful.

Jose Fernandez was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and surgery was recommended by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in the initial diagnosis.

Tom Verducci says lowering the mound would help. Also this:

just want to point out that what actually happens at the end of close basketball games is a long series of timeouts, fouls, and free throws.

Brandon Belt underwent surgery on Tuesday to have two pins installed in his fractured left thumb, manager Bruce Bochy, but the timetable for the first baseman's return remains six weeks.

The pins are expected to stay in for four weeks, and Belt would spend two weeks after that preparing to return to the lineup.

has anyone ever done an analysis of the worst seasons, injury wise? i suppose it would have tons of caveats but one way to do it would be to take the number of games on the DL and then look at how those players were projected to perform during those games, pre-injury, by ZIPS/Steamer Rest-of-season forecasts

Gavin Floyd was having a really good game against the Nats but his rebuilt elbow went pffft in the 7th. He had a bulge like a ping pong ball sticking out of it as he left.

Broken olecranon (tip of the elbow bone), wtf. At least it wasn't the TJ ligament.
