For us non-book readers, here's an AV Club list of 15 changes from the novels to the series that isn't spoilery: http://www.avclub.com/article/well-actually-books-15-differences-text-tv-game-th-203713

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 28 April 2014 05:24 (nine years ago) link

This episode was mildly frustrating to me. Why they ever wanted to go north of the wall I don't get. Jon isn't fucking there! And yes that story is kinda snoresville. I have't read the books but I know how some stuff plays out this season.

The Jaime/Brianne scenes were pretty rad though.

Dreamland, Monday, 28 April 2014 05:30 (nine years ago) link

Only thing I rolled my eyes at this ep was the stuff with bran & co. Like I get it, bran's story is pretty dull (at least until he gets to...a certain place) but I'm not crazy about this little detour.

spoiler

Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 28 April 2014 06:12 (nine years ago) link

Didn't Bran learn the last time he was threatened to be made a hostage?? And there's no Theon to save him this time.

Haven't seem the latest yet, though I think part of my question gets answered, but what the hell have the snow zombies been up to? We have all these dudes and wildlings and other folks zipping around up north, so the zombies should have made some real headway by now, given they don't eat or sleep. They just lumbering somewhere?

Gorgeous looking episode, from Mireen to the spooky snow fortress.

whoever commented on the lack of epic scenes upthread was otm -- I lamented the skipping-over of the meereen slave uprising almost immediately after the scene changed... we only saw one master get shanked! wtf

dan m, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:11 (nine years ago) link

yeah but then we saw a shit-ton of them get nailed to signposts, which was pretty gnarly

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 28 April 2014 16:15 (nine years ago) link

it did feel like another set up ep to me, but you need those too, and there was some cool stuff in it

learn to enjoy the setup the same way you enjoy the rollercoaster creeping up to the top of the hill

yeah i know but still

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 28 April 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

No reason to have an entire episode of setup for every story, followed by a peak for every story, then setups, on and on. It's plagued the series since the beginning; give a payoff to one or two of the many story lines each week while setting up the others. It's really not hard.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:27 (nine years ago) link

This may be extremely petty, but:

- Did this white walker feed the baby and keep it warm during their trek to the white walker lair? OR...
- is the white walker lair extremely close for them to be able to slowly stroll there without the baby starving or sooner freezing to death? ALSO
- Wasn't that the EXACT white walker that Sam murdered? I assume they aren't all clones.
- Which is also the EXACT(?) white walker that we saw for the first time when Sam was hiding behind the rock
- That being said, by the end of THAT scene he was totally surrounded by the undead army/white walkers. How the hell did he slip away again?

Evan, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:32 (nine years ago) link

I can't think of anything worse than being trapped on a ship with creepy Long John Littlefinger

guh

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 28 April 2014 16:32 (nine years ago) link

yeah, writing one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows on tv that also happens to be an adaptation of a massively involved fantasy series is definitely not that hard

given "the actress who played sansa's parents were on set for a scene where her character's being raped" link upthread, I imagine they're gonna do a lot worse than that shortly

I'll take it

Evan, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:43 (nine years ago) link

I am really being worn down by this show's insistence on shorthanding evil via sexual violence. Also I may never be able to watch season two of Torchwood again.

chillin' on an "awesome pretzel" hoagie (DJP), Monday, 28 April 2014 16:46 (nine years ago) link

yeah, given all the attention for the cersei/jaime scene last week, it's surprising that few people on the interview seem to have taken issue with last night's episode, especially the part where women are being raped and the really creepy guy is talking about them being raped until they die.

Karl Malone, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:51 (nine years ago) link

Well, that is largely because the dude doing the raping is supposed to be a mustache-twirling unambiguous Bad Guy and therefore rape is to be expected from him.
