usb cables too, which sounds stupid until you see how much they'd charge you for a new one

everyone otm about applecare. If you don't have it though, I feel like the genius bar people have a bit more latitude than online/telephone support to replace bits and pieces out of warranty.

sktsh, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 10:32 (ten years ago) link

FYI iPhone applecare only lasts two years, i.e. warranty year + one more year

, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 10:59 (ten years ago) link

apple is so 80s

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Tuesday, 22 April 2014 15:54 (ten years ago) link

sktsh, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:09 (ten years ago) link

lol no thanks

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:31 (ten years ago) link

So does this mean I don't have to pay the 99 bucks for ADC OSX?

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:36 (ten years ago) link

I think they give you minor version betas, not major version betas

It'd be worth it if you were really waiting for a fix and it was being tested

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:36 (ten years ago) link

maybe I should say patch betas, considering 10 is technically still the major version :/

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:37 (ten years ago) link

I'm just complaining. My goal is to get stuff on the OSX app store and ADC is required for that.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:45 (ten years ago) link

then again, who knows, maybe it's all betas because nobody wants to beta test OS X

a strange man (mh), Tuesday, 22 April 2014 21:45 (ten years ago) link

i certainly don't

markers, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:25 (ten years ago) link

so many software updates: new version of ios, pages, spotify i think, new twitter profiles

markers, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:27 (ten years ago) link

is icloud still booty?

caek, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:43 (ten years ago) link

i don't know what you mean by "booty" there, but it doesn't always work.

markers, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:52 (ten years ago) link

no idea if this will help

markers, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:52 (ten years ago) link

notes won't sync properly sometimes between the mac and my ipad

markers, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 22:53 (ten years ago) link

iMessage and photo stream syncing both seem to be fucked for me right now :/

stet, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 00:37 (ten years ago) link

really gives third-party developers motivation to use their syncing

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:09 (ten years ago) link

i tried to use icloud documents for the first time this week.

it doesn't work?

caek, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:20 (ten years ago) link

I hate how software updates just tell you to restart your cmoputer

And they don't tell you what they fucked with

I just restarted but I don't know why :\

, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:23 (ten years ago) link

so, 10.10 is gonna get an ios 7-ish redesign

markers, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:27 (ten years ago) link

markers, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:27 (ten years ago) link

here's the link in case slocki's reading: http://www.muleradio.net/thetalkshow/79/

if a single ui element appears flatter, they will declare victory

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:42 (ten years ago) link

if none appear different, it will be evidence that they couldn't come up with a good implementation of that for the desktop

claim bisque, a la gruber

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 01:44 (ten years ago) link

here's why all the updates, btw: https://twitter.com/fredericjacobs/status/458676328573980672

More LOLZ at namechecking Gurman

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 21:03 (ten years ago) link

tea leaf readers

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

I feel like "scoops" and speculation about what products could be released is the race to the bottom as far as blog traffic/ad impressions go. It's the most valueless thing, because even if true, it doesn't give any sense of value.

They're not without faults, but I'd rather read a lot more sites like The Verge or in-depth changelogs like the Ars Technica OS X feature rundowns than sit there ping-ponging between tech blogs and nerding out over exactly how many quarter inches the next phone will be.

a strange man (mh), Wednesday, 23 April 2014 21:13 (ten years ago) link

just follow mark gurman

markers, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 21:13 (ten years ago) link

Apple just announced a 7-for-1 stock split. Wow!

Lee626, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 23:02 (ten years ago) link

first in nine years according to someone on twitter (can't remember who)

markers, Wednesday, 23 April 2014 23:07 (ten years ago) link

I noticed ios 7.1.1 turns on bluetooth even if you had it turned off before. that might contribute to battery drain.

Dan I., Thursday, 24 April 2014 23:55 (ten years ago) link

Aha! Thanks. That explains a few things about my battery this week. It also turned on "use cellular data for" for every app I own.

Khamma chameleon (Jon Lewis), Friday, 25 April 2014 00:03 (ten years ago) link

i hope that's a bug because if that's default behavior that's fucked up

markers, Friday, 25 April 2014 00:12 (ten years ago) link

Maybe a bug? I didn't notice it here, but the permanent GPS marker is disconcerting.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 25 April 2014 01:09 (ten years ago) link

I upgraded this morning and bluetooth did not go on.

sofatruck, Friday, 25 April 2014 16:28 (ten years ago) link

HEY GUYS, HERE'S A 9 TO 5 MAC POST

markers, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:57 (ten years ago) link

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT

markers, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:57 (ten years ago) link

should be easy enough to see whether this rumor is legit or not!!

markers, Monday, 28 April 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

just a spec bump, pff

Nhex, Monday, 28 April 2014 17:43 (ten years ago) link

24 hour notice is basically "some guy spotted these mid-shipment" or "they are sitting in the back of my Apple store" and not so rumory
