"Ello. I would like to apologise to those that came to see us in Brighton last night. It's been really busy this past few months and old demons got the better of me. It's no excuse and it's not on. Really sorry. Jason"
Does anyone know what happened?

― Fizzles, Sunday, 27 April 2014 20:10 (ten years ago) link
not really sure what happened. just before they were due to go on the promoter or road manager or someone climbed up on stage and announced that they wouldn't be playing cos "one of them had gone MIA in south london" but he refused to expand on that. i did see the guy who isn't jason outside the pub earlier on, and a tweet from a local listings magazine claimed they were both there but couldn't be arsed, but i don't know how true that was. most of the speculation i've seen is that jason was too hungover/drunk to make it. anyhow, local punk poet atilla the stockbroker seized the opportunity to take the stage so i made a swift exit to go and see some other gig instead. saw another tweet later that the other sleaford mod did go on and play some music but again, dunno if that's true or not...

― dollar rave club (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 15 May 2014 14:17 (ten years ago) link
protagonist of rarely-seen strip in 'Viz' comic
Norbert Colon
The meanest man ever to exist, he makes Ebenezer Scrooge, Albert Steptoe, Rigby and Arkwright all look like reckless spendthrifts. Once sawed his own feet off in order to buy a pair of boots, and turned down a cheap holiday in the South Atlantic cutting kelp (2p and all the plankton you can eat!) because spending money wasn’t included.
NB I didn't quite understand the reference in the actual lyric

Thanks to a chance shuffle on the car mp3 player, I have finally worked out where that drum beat on Urine Mate comes from - it's Careering by PiL.
The more I think about it, Wobble/Levene-era PiL seems like a better model than anything else for Fearney's backing tracks.

'Fearny' is surely the best programmer out there? Reminds me of a some of 4 Hero's more complex grooves. With a huge dose of UK Subs thrown in the mix.
'Liveable Shit' is hilarious - nailing Shoreditch scenesters and GG fucking Allin name droppers within 10 seconds

drove through sleaford the other day. i'd imagined it was a nottingham suburb but it's way out in the flat south lincolnshire corn fields next to thatcher's hometown grantham. weird bit of the country next to the wash & not a lot going on
like the bits of the album when it sounds like they're having fun w/ the listener a lot more than when it drifts into Right On social commentary
