from noz's tumblr
I met Future at a listening session a few weeks ago and asked him about this. It turns out Casino wasn’t supposed to be on either of these records initially but he went rogue and snuck his vocals onto Future’s Pro Tools sessions. Future then found the verses when it was time to send them out to be mastered and decided to leave them on the street versions as a way to boost his brother’s profile. He assured me that Casino’s “Move That Dope” verse will appear on the album.

Casino is great on "Move That Dope", not so much on "Karate Chop"
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:45 (ten years ago) link
Casino is just plain bad on "Karate Chop", and in the end his presence on that record ended up being overshadowed by the controversy with the Lil Wayne remix
Also, I can't help but recall a similar incident with Cyhi the Prynce of GOOD Music, who did pretty much the exact same thing by sneaking his verse onto "So Appalled" while Kanye was asleep in the studio

fuck is with ILX and the True Detective about Casino?

the GOAT snuck in verse was "Lean Back," Fat Joe did 3 verses and then Remy Ma deleted the 2nd and laid hers down and he kept it

Note: The untitled track after "Sleep (Part II): Carry Stress in the Jaw" is often titled "The Secret Song" (the working title of the song) or "Spy" (the title that appears on various concert setlists). It was originally recorded without bassist Trevor Dunn's input or knowledge; although, shortly before its release, Dunn managed to find it and added a vocal track. Though never explicitly stated, it is believed (by Dunn) that the drums were played by McKinnon, and the bass guitar by Patton.[4]

didn't know that about remy ma and "lean back"! or this trend generally. any other examples?
the weird fixation on future/"drunk in love" always seemed off to me because obviously the most future-esque melody on beyoncé is "jealous"

the inclusion of "honest" by itself is going to mark this as a must-hear albumsuch an incredible singleit's like the pinnacle of everything he's about/done. i haven't felt any of his songs like that, except maybe Jealous, My and First Class Flights. Move That Dope has grown on me, but not monumentally

i hope this is good but i'm def starting to feel apprehension about it being a Carter III/Thr33 Ringz type situation where it can only be half as good as what it might've been if he hadn't given a couple dozen dope songs to other people since his last album.

Future said via Facebook that he's "making a BIG announcement today!!! #Honest," hopefully a Frank Ocean-esque early release, but probably more tour dates
― voodoo chili, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 16:42 (ten years ago) link
Wasn't his Kanye collab "I Won" supposed to have dropped a few days back?
― Frontier Psychiatrist, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 16:47 (ten years ago) link
Looks like tour dates, good news that he's finally headlining though.
― voodoo chili, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 16:55 (ten years ago) link
He was okay at best when opening for Drake (at least when compared to Miguel and the headliner, who just puts on a better show than Future, #honest), so I'm still contemplating whether to see him headline when he comes to town.
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 17:51 (ten years ago) link
hearing "I Won" and the title track is still the only dope track to come outta this so far imo

I think my shipper tendencies for Future/Ciara and Kimye are clouding my judgment because I actually really like this track (and I seem to be the only one).

― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 10 April 2014 18:40 (ten years ago) link
weirdly minor compared to where it seemed like he could go with this album like 4 or 5 months ago, not weirdly minor considering everything that has happened w/ the singles since

― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 10 April 2014 22:14 (ten years ago) link
That actually sounds nice to me, but I like small-picture rap albums. I'm tiring of albums that are big linear narratives (where half the story is told through skits and voiceovers). Just give me some good tracks, as little filler as possible and nothing that pulls me out of the album and I'm totally happy
― Evan R, Thursday, 10 April 2014 22:18 (ten years ago) link
that's a strawman, though. only kendrick and YG have really gone for that sort of album.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 10 April 2014 22:25 (ten years ago) link
recently at least
there are ways to make an artistic "leap" with an album w/o heralding it as some cinematic experience... take care and deeper than rap are good recent examples. even something like tha carter II, as well.

only kendrick and YG have really gone for that sort of album.
I overstated the prevalence of single-narrative albums, but a lot of young rappers are going for this kind of message storytelling on a smaller scale right now. There's a lot of it in most of the recent TDE releases, Schoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashah, and in Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino and all those guys. Lots of those acts are doing this stuff well, obviously, but right now a lot of acts seem invested in making "important" rap albums when making a really good one is an equally admirable feat imo
― Evan R, Thursday, 10 April 2014 23:08 (ten years ago) link
i don't particularly like the schoolboy album to me but i don't see how that one fits in... chance either
i mean they're long and i guess ambitious in a sense but i'd rather that than 12 songs personally
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 11 April 2014 00:31 (ten years ago) link
the andre song is good but... weird. not aesthetically, it just comes from a weird place. andre is good on the hook at least. i'm not sure anyone turned off by his recent verses is gonna find much to turn around on.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 11 April 2014 00:53 (ten years ago) link
yeah I'm having difficulty recalling a verse from him after 2007 that I've dug. Well "Royal Flush" and the C4 interlude were cool actually
― nova, Friday, 11 April 2014 00:59 (ten years ago) link
but the good thing is that it doesn't have the feel of ***NEW ANDRE 3000*** verse where he rambles for like 90 seconds straight
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 11 April 2014 01:01 (ten years ago) link
The crux of the Schoolboy album is a two-song message track about drug abuse, "Prescription/Oxymoron," clearly modeled after "Good Kid"/"Maad City." It's like he condensed the Danny Brown album into 7 minutes. Feels like a lot of post-GKMC albums really lean hard on a thesis.
― Evan R, Friday, 11 April 2014 02:46 (ten years ago) link
snippets have totally deflated my anticipation for this album. Literally sounds like 2 dope songs on the whole thing, possibly 3 because I can't really tell what the Drake feature's like from the clip. Dude's debut has some stuff that's a step below but I can pretty much play the whole thing bar "Tony Montana"
man

lol may be picky. Initial impression is a bunch of hollow attempted bangers though. My iTunes-sample predicting abilities of whether I'll like the full song are usually pretty accurate, but 1:30's a good amount to go on
other than title track "I Be U" sounds purdy

The way that the hard drive woes are disclosed over a dolorous piano melody takes it to a different level imo.I know it's annoying to point out, but thats definitely not astronaut status
I guess it fits in with the whole redemption narrative though… Opiate addiction, divorce, file management problems

was looking up who produced a given DS2 track, and idk why exactly but this bit from wiki made me lol
The basis for the album's cover art is a stock photo sold through Shutterstock with the title "Color drop in water, photographed in motion. Ink swirling in water. Cloud of silky ink in water isolated on white background. Colorful ink in water, ink drop." The image was created by Sanja Tošić, an artist based in Slovenia. Although she did not know who Future was until The Fader contacted her to ask about the album art, Tošić said that she is now a fan.[5]
