The Cock?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

I'm down for either. Haha Mary, we should go back to Rise...

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:33 (twenty years ago) link

Mike Daddino gets to attend both this and the London Tom Wedding MegaFAP. I R JEALOUS.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 October 2003 19:39 (twenty years ago) link

The Hole!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:13 (twenty years ago) link

Ooh okay! The Hole and The Urge and The Slide. The Terrible Trio of 2nd Ave. Gay Sleaze Bars! though the hole is straight hipster night on saturday

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:23 (twenty years ago) link

Ooer I've been wanting to go to the Slide for soo long.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 3 October 2003 20:29 (twenty years ago) link

This is turning into an Electric Six song!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:14 (twenty years ago) link

JJ and WK: I am getting tickets for this tomorrow as per Jeanne Fury's heads up.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:19 (twenty years ago) link

oh, i meant to say via othermusic in case anyone needs me to pick them up some if they fear the ticketweb like i do.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 3 October 2003 21:54 (twenty years ago) link

Please tell me we can have the FAP at the Coral Room; there be mermaids there

http://www.coralroomnyc.com/

Or how about Princess on Bayard St? There is a cute purple neon sign that says "Princess" in cursive and karaoke inside I think.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 06:38 (twenty years ago) link

When is Gareth in NYC?

All you muthafuckas should go out to the Luna Lounge this Saturday and see my sweethearts straight outta the EDT, SLICK 57. G-Unit saw these boys and loves them, but I don't think he'll be there.

Go see them and tell the bassist Susan/Sam sent you and he'll feel you up. ;)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 6 October 2003 07:03 (twenty years ago) link

I don't have the exact dates for the G-money traveling circus yet, but perhaps it will coincide with Halloween.

Should we go to Winnie's for karaoke? Or will it be too crowded there?

Spencer, I recommend the Isamu Noguchi and Modern Japanese Ceramics exhibit at the Japan Society.

http://www.japansociety.org/exhibit/upcoming.cfm

If you haven't been to the Noguchi museum in Queens you could do that to. They may even have a bus from the Japan Society.

http://www.noguchi.org/

Also: the Takashi Murakami public installation at Rock Center.

Other things that have been in the press: the Pulp Art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum,

http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/special_exhibitions/pulp_art/

and the America Effect at the Whitney (though I wouldn't personally recommend this last one), oh never mind, looks like it's closed anyway.

http://www.whitney.org/

If you were Gareth, I would recommend the Stephen Shore photography exhibit at the 303 Gallery.

http://www.303gallery.com/

If you have time, take a train out to Dia Beacon.

http://www.diabeacon.org/dia/visitor/index.html

Further afield, but I think it would be very Spencerlike to see the Diane Arbus exhibit at Mount Holyoke.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:22 (twenty years ago) link

Mary, thanks for the tips!!! I was actually thinking about that Diane Arbus thing and I will definitely check out the Noguchi museum. The others sound great too!

Most of these drinking establishments sound pretty great as well.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:26 (twenty years ago) link

You're welcome, Spencer. Let me know if you would like a companion for the Mass Arbus; sounds intriguing.

Let us know what kind of vibe you're feeling for the bar call.

Here's the skinny on the Slide

http://marions.citysearch.com/

and further down on the Bowery we could get a very cheesy groove on at the new Capitale

LUCKY CHANGS!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:48 (twenty years ago) link

Yanc3y speaks truth. Lucky Chang is worth checking out, if only for the bordello-red plush style of the place. Where better to begin debauchery?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:54 (twenty years ago) link

Lucky Chang is ok for tourists, but maybe our Spence deserves something better? Anyway, I'm fine with it, for convenience sake.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:57 (twenty years ago) link

Mary, I would agree---except I'd say it should be experienced (even once, on the way to somewhere else). Besides, Spence might get a tickle out of it.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 6 October 2003 20:59 (twenty years ago) link

I've just realized my primary concern for the whole weekend is turning into the pacing of alcohol intake during any and all FAPs.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:00 (twenty years ago) link

also weren't we going to rename American FAPs into WTFs?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:00 (twenty years ago) link

Sure we can go there, as long as we are doing it in an ironic-ironic way, one step above the tourists who go there in an ironic way and get so impressed by the drag queens.

Anyway, for cultural touristm how about a low-key s/m club? I think there's one on 2nd street, called, the Marquis de Sade? Or wait, that's not the place that's now a tiki bar/restaurant is it?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:08 (twenty years ago) link

I'm really going to stop offering suggestions soon. Fez. Niagara. OK, Ally's the cruise director here.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:10 (twenty years ago) link

Mary lecturing on cultural tourism, ha!

How is Lucky Chang's ironic? I used to go there every Friday night for about six months!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:16 (twenty years ago) link

the best place for FAPping as proven by science is Odessa, a diner that we found down near the Hi-Fi and that other joint where we moved the pool table across the room that I forgot the name of.

Anyway they had $3 Anchor Steam in bottles and it was quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming and the bathrooms were relatively clean and they had 'disco fries' on the menu along with a bunch of other good food. I say fuck the hipster bar atmosphere, just hang out at a diner that serves liquor! Plus you save on tips!

TOMBOT, Monday, 6 October 2003 21:23 (twenty years ago) link

My Romanian steak I ordered gave me nightmares later. Or maybe that was while I was skinning it.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:26 (twenty years ago) link

The other bar = Manitoba's. I hope no one ate the disco fries.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:28 (twenty years ago) link

Spencer is adorable and I cannot wait to meet him.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:29 (twenty years ago) link

(Yancey, I wasn't lecturing, I really do want to go that s/m joint, which I really think is now a tiki bar, which I would be happy to go as well.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:32 (twenty years ago) link

This is all starting to sound like a Houellebecq novel!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:47 (twenty years ago) link

Ha ha :)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:52 (twenty years ago) link

Starting?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:58 (twenty years ago) link

I ate like nearly all the disco fries. Those things were great! It's like cheese and gravy and fried potatoes, what more do you need?*

*red chile mayonnaise and lump crabmeat

TOMBOT, Monday, 6 October 2003 22:06 (twenty years ago) link

(We ordered those for delivery in a drunken stupor last New Year's.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:12 (twenty years ago) link

It's like cheese and gravy and fried potatoes, what more do you need?

A doctor standing by would be handy.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:12 (twenty years ago) link

Also, Felicity, I'm very much looking forward to mtng you in prsn too! I assume there's no Cubs' game Saturday night?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:14 (twenty years ago) link

Also, that reminds me, I have to get to making CDs!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 6 October 2003 23:06 (twenty years ago) link

YEAH SPENCER WHERE ARE MY CDS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!JEHNGBOI*T#_)(Y th

err sorry.

Anyway this FAP is too far away for me to think about just yet but I will be wearing red boots.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 6 October 2003 23:20 (twenty years ago) link

What has Spencer done that he and Felicity have to meet in prison?

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 08:36 (twenty years ago) link

That's not surprising; it's weirder that Felicity's going to prison.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 12:42 (twenty years ago) link

I'm so very excited about Spencer coming to town... but can we pretty please not go to Lucky Cheng's? When I was really really really really broke, I tried to get a job there, and I'd rather not show my face around there again. Though, I guess it could be fun

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:04 (twenty years ago) link

I am nixing LC's. Mainly cos I hate their name.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:11 (twenty years ago) link

apparently i didn't have enough potential as a drag queen.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:12 (twenty years ago) link

Sexists.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 14:15 (twenty years ago) link

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 9 October 2003 21:09 (twenty years ago) link

This is my usual tourist activity!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 9 October 2003 21:18 (twenty years ago) link

OK, now can we talk about where we are going?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 20 October 2003 22:11 (twenty years ago) link

Not sure, I'll post when I do. Might be going to some Nylon mag party thing Wednesday night.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 05:38 (sixteen years ago) link
