Stop picking on him. Can't you see he has the weight of the world on his shoulders? Poor dude.

Always nice to hear Eno sing. That baby elephant song I heard the other day was a POS though.

the snippets I heard during the NPR review did not wow me. Reviewer Tom Moon loved it.

The sensation I get from listening to this album is similar to the sensation I imagine I'd get if I made a compilation of all the slower, more rambling tracks from George Harrison's mid-'70s discography. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't like George Harrison at all. But it is kinda just there, it isn't particularly engaging, it's a touch boring and from an act like Albarn one just expects so much more. A disappointment.

The album has some nice moments but don't think I'll find myself wanting to go back to it at all. Think it's time for him to let us hear those Blur songs they've been working on over the last few years.

Saw a little bit of him on Jools Holland, making a twat of himslef, crap song too

Me neither. I find it even less engaging than The Good, The Bad & The Queen, actually. It's a shame, because I really hoped I would like it.

It sounds like the type of album you'd expect an artist in his 40s would make.

Which is generally not a good thing.

I like the "I'm doing a faux-casual shoot for GQ and I've got 15 minutes"-ness of that album cover.

I can't say I'm a huge fan. I like the electronic touches but generally speaking it's not that great. It sounds like monotonous background music. I hate talking bad about music, but it truly feels tedious, and people have accused me of listening to really boring, elevator music.
I'm going to give it another listen. The last track ("Heavy Seas of Love") is really nice.
― ∞, Thursday, 1 May 2014 16:02 (ten years ago) link
"Heavy Seeds of Love" is the indie "Bound 2" (and also strangely redolent of Jon Secada's "Another Day Without You".) I'm not sure about the album so far - a lot of it sounds like a sort of failed attempt to make an avant-garde Sade album.

that fucking elephant song. jeez
is the rest at least better than that one?

I really like this album. In a way it is quite mature. Nothing really exciting but in a crappy year like 2014 this is top-notch stuff. By the way I never understood the fuss about Parklife. I found it really disappointing after the two phantastic albums before. It was more or less their sell-out. I blame the mediocrity of Parklife to Oasis. They had entered an unhealthy competition. Their next good album was 13. And it was their last.

They had entered an unhealthy competition
That came later

but it started in 1994 when parklife and the first oasis album came out around the same time in spring.

Oasis were pretty much unheard of when Parklife was released
― PaulTMA, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:06 (nine years ago) link
Title track from this album is a serious earworm.
― Lee626, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:27 (nine years ago) link
Don't think the Oasis album came out till the autumn of 1994. No one had heard of Oasis when Parklife was being recorded and Girls & Boys was a big hit before Oasis did anything. The "unhealthy competition" was more about 1995 and Great Escape.
