I liked HnC and thought the singles from this have been really disappointing :/

imago draggin' (The Reverend), Friday, 21 February 2014 20:24 (ten years ago) link

This doesn't have draggy stretches like HnC, but the highs are a lot lower

Evan R, Friday, 21 February 2014 20:32 (ten years ago) link

yea the sugar free track is terrible too

few good songs here but idk i dont really get this guy

johnny crunch, Friday, 21 February 2014 20:38 (ten years ago) link

suga not sugar thx autocorrect for making me look herby

johnny crunch, Friday, 21 February 2014 20:39 (ten years ago) link

There aint no Hands on The Wheel on it but I still think it is a better album than HnC. Glad to see other people liked HnC, I always thought it was mostly reviled on here.

xelab, Friday, 21 February 2014 20:41 (ten years ago) link

i didn't really like the song w/him and raekwon which seems like a massively bad sign

sXe & the banshees (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 21 February 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link

"collard greens" is a really underrated single imo, really fun song

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 21 February 2014 22:18 (ten years ago) link

It was really underrated! Pretty flawless imo, love everything about it

lex pretend, Friday, 21 February 2014 23:15 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I still crank that one every time

Evan R, Friday, 21 February 2014 23:45 (ten years ago) link

A few great tracks, mostly near the beginning, but he should never ever ever attempt sex raps/content ever. Mostly I don't find him interesting enough a character to spend most of an hour+ with.

Simon H., Friday, 21 February 2014 23:50 (ten years ago) link

collard greens >>>>> hands on the wheel

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 21 February 2014 23:57 (ten years ago) link

this album is ehhalright

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 21 February 2014 23:58 (ten years ago) link

really don't agree with some of you people.

xelab, Saturday, 22 February 2014 01:00 (ten years ago) link

Listening again, but I really can`t imagine how anyone could enjoy "Studio" or "Hell of a Night." There are some half-dece tracks marred by either Q himself ("What They Want," "Oxymoron") or the guest (Tyler on "The Purge").

Simon H., Saturday, 22 February 2014 03:06 (ten years ago) link

Hoover Street is Q's most poignant work yet, some of the imagery in there seems very personal. Kinda love it as well, the beats are alltime dark.

xelab, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 16:26 (ten years ago) link

"Studio" is my favorite song....

rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 18:02 (ten years ago) link

yeah I skip around a lot

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 18:09 (ten years ago) link

i really can't get into this for some reason

sXe & the banshees (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 19:32 (ten years ago) link

...yeah, most of this album bores me to tears.

Murgatroid, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 20:14 (ten years ago) link

Haven't stopped listening to this record.

imago draggin' (The Reverend), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 03:22 (ten years ago) link

I wasn't that into "Collard Greens" until I heard it out the other night and now I love it

imago draggin' (The Reverend), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 03:36 (ten years ago) link

It's kinda like every other SQ album in that the highs are crazy high but everything else is just ok

Hover Street
Los Awesome
Gangster

A few others but honestly I need to listen more

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 22:16 (ten years ago) link

Hell of a Night is perfect in it's own goofball way.

this is sounding good.

yea i waay underrated this initially on the weakness of a few awful trax but this has several undeniable jamz

johnny crunch, Friday, 22 August 2014 01:36 (nine years ago) link

"Man of the Year" is one my singles of the year, "Studio" more problematic.

i think also i was prejeducialist to q bcuz i never thought someone rocking so many bucket hats could possibly be good

johnny crunch, Friday, 22 August 2014 02:15 (nine years ago) link

How dare you sir

EPMD looking at you like

The Reverend, Friday, 22 August 2014 03:32 (nine years ago) link

tbf there were basically 20 years between EPMD and Schoolboy Q where the only rapper famous for wearing bucket hats was Tony Yayo

bucket hats are basically becoming the new trucker hat in the post-odd future/yung lean era though

T/F: The best song on Oxymoron is 'Collard Greens'

(t btw; followed by Hell of a Night, Break the Bank, Los Awesome, Hoover Street, The Purge, Blind Threats, Man of the Year more or less in that order)

T/F: The best song on Oxymoron is 'Collard Greens'

― go ahead. make vid where u rap about this new TMNT movie. (forksclovetofu),

True.

Second after "Los Awesome"

The Reverend, Friday, 22 August 2014 17:13 (nine years ago) link

One of the things I think is really cool about this album is that when it reaches for an "old school west coast" sound, its model seems to be DJ Muggs rather than Dr. Dre

The Reverend, Friday, 22 August 2014 17:33 (nine years ago) link

Second after "Los Awesome"

^^^ agreed

though am I the only one who digs "Prescription/Oxymoron" now?

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Friday, 22 August 2014 17:34 (nine years ago) link

Never liked that one

"Studio" still horrific, how was "Los Awesome" not a single instead

Simon H., Friday, 22 August 2014 20:14 (nine years ago) link

"Studio" somehow feels longer and slower every time I hear it. Relieved that it's finally fading from radio rotation.

Evan R, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:16 (nine years ago) link

"Studio" is a funny song, like few rappers have ever sounded more "the label needs a single, this'll work" half-assed rapping on an R&B track, his verses all end with awkward trainwrecks, but it's still kind of hot. and went #1 a few months after he practically disowned everything radio-friendly on his album and whined that he wished he never signed with a major.

birdman junior dad (some dude), Friday, 22 August 2014 21:35 (nine years ago) link

I don't think Q sounds good on it, but I don't think he's the problem, either. Every cover or mixtape freestyle I've heard of the song has been a slog, too. Something about the beat/pacing just sucks the life out of whoever is rapping over it.

Evan R, Friday, 22 August 2014 21:43 (nine years ago) link

I fux with "Studio". It sounds good on the radio.
