smell a freshly roiling floe of dog urine

we slowly invented brains (La Lechera), Friday, 21 February 2014 19:47 (ten years ago) link

i'm constantly, like, a day away from being caught up enough w/ my professional writing obligations that i don't feel terribly irresponsible spending some time getting the Classic Rock poll setup, so i mean, it'll happen when it happens. maybe even tomorrow (no, really!). if Elvis Telecom wants to coordinate w/ me so we're not running stuff at the same time, that's fine by me, i can wait or i can get mine done before his.

MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Friday, 21 February 2014 19:48 (ten years ago) link

i don't really care, i'm just pissy because there are no flowers to smell around here for a good long while and i heard "dust in the wind" on the radio yesterday.

Taking Devil's Tower (by mashed potatoes) (WilliamC), Friday, 21 February 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

can I turn my Extreme Metal poll into a Black Metal poll?

Viceroy, Friday, 21 February 2014 22:07 (ten years ago) link

no prob

Would there be interest in a Gainsbourg poll?

Legendary Zing! Alum (seandalai), Friday, 21 February 2014 23:25 (ten years ago) link

I'd be interested, but seeing as I pretty much always fail to vote in artist-specific polls maybe that doesn't mean much.

l'Histoire de Emil.y Pollshun

A French pop poll would be great! Or a non-English language European one!

night boat to mega therion (NickB), Friday, 21 February 2014 23:52 (ten years ago) link

I don't know what I'm so excited about btw!

night boat to mega therion (NickB), Friday, 21 February 2014 23:53 (ten years ago) link

A larger French language poll would interest me, but a concentration on Gainsbourg alone would be out of my depth.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 21 February 2014 23:55 (ten years ago) link

Of course, now that I think about it, my ballot in a broader French language poll would still be fairly small.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 21 February 2014 23:55 (ten years ago) link

French pop/French language/non-Anglophone poll would be right up my alley.

emil.y, Saturday, 22 February 2014 00:08 (ten years ago) link

Would be keeen as moutarde on a Gainsbourg or French pop poll!

I can't remember any of the arguments against a poll of Beatles solo careers, so I think I'll put myself on the list to do that one in however many years.

Taking Devil's Tower (by mashed potatoes) (WilliamC), Sunday, 2 March 2014 14:14 (ten years ago) link

Cool. I hope there won't be zero living Beatles by that time.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 2 March 2014 15:15 (ten years ago) link

Assuming Bee OK is on for Steely Dan, I'm thinking the Dylan poll will kick off mid-to-late Aprilish?

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:40 (ten years ago) link

Just trying to plan...

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:40 (ten years ago) link

If no single artist poll is going to run concurrently with Classic Rock, I guess that sounds about right.

Taking Devil's Tower (by mashed potatoes) (WilliamC), Sunday, 2 March 2014 21:54 (ten years ago) link

so i have been thinking about timing for Steely Dan. i should be able to go right after Pink Floyd. i need to ask for a couple of days off to run this thing properly. if i do this right this could happen the first week of baseball which would be amazing, i can watch MLB Extra Innings and post the results during the first week of the season. baseball does have 162 games in 180 days so if the timing doesn't work it really is not that big of a deal. but i'm thinking since "Classic Rock" and Steely Dan overlap somewhat then they probably shouldn't run at the same time. so this can be delayed if Some Dude is going to run that poll here in the near future. thoughts?

hi

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 March 2014 03:53 (ten years ago) link

i'm working like 70 hours this week and i don't know when my life is going to go back to normal so don't make any plans around me, i'll do Classic Rock someday, but do your thing whenever you want to do it and in the unlikely event that i may overlap i'll consult w/ you.

70 hour work weeks, don't envy that at all. so now we know why "Classic Rock" has not started yet. and thanks SD.

Bee OK, Friday, 7 March 2014 02:17 (ten years ago) link

on deck: Steely Dan

doing some research now.

Bee OK, Thursday, 13 March 2014 02:30 (ten years ago) link

Big critics band in the '70s, had a few hit singles too. Songs were often allusive, cryptic, and vaguely sinister; others were extremely buoyant, though. Didn't really sound like anybody else.

The poll can start now.
