Odd label - theres one particular one from 1999 i REALLY want, but its pretty much impossible to find

cog, Friday, 7 February 2014 21:54 (ten years ago) link

frak is very strange, but i like this track by them which is much tamer than most of their stuff i've heard:

Good stuff. I hadn’t ever noticed the label before but picked up the by Five O'Clock Traffic from 2013, some wonky gems on that.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 8 February 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

sometimes the noisy, abrasive techno just gives me a headache (full disclosure: i am o-l-d old). this, tho, i like

some NSFW images here (semi-shrouded porn scenes, from the looks of it).

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 8 February 2014 01:40 (ten years ago) link

Container records always have a track or two with that little extra special something.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 8 February 2014 02:44 (ten years ago) link

yeah, their LP from 2012 is their best, imo

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Saturday, 8 February 2014 02:45 (ten years ago) link

They do seem to have gone further away from the dancefloor with each release.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 8 February 2014 02:58 (ten years ago) link

I like the almost Millsian takes on techno on these anonymous 12s http://www.tabernaclerecords.co.uk/hfp.html

Is "Bobbins" a real genre now, or has one of you got a job at Fact?

"righteous indignation shit" (Branwell Bell), Monday, 10 February 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link

what does "bobbins" mean?

Daniel, Esq 2, Monday, 10 February 2014 15:35 (ten years ago) link

Haha, I wonder who wrote the article.

From wikipedia: A bobbin is a spindle or cylinder, with or without flanges, on which wire, yarn, thread or film is wound"

In other words, it is for rolling thread

Very nice one from Pampa

tarping, Monday, 10 February 2014 16:36 (ten years ago) link

Bobbins is a UK slang term for stuff that is not really that good http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bobbins. I remember the first thread was Electro House Bobbins which I have always assumed was a little tongue-in-cheek comment about the brashness and non-pure nature of that genre.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 10 February 2014 18:33 (ten years ago) link

That Soulphiction one could do with being a little less wacky but I think Pampa Records might be my favourite label right now.

boxedjoy, Monday, 10 February 2014 20:13 (ten years ago) link

I thought bobbins meant like as in bobbin your head to the beat.

that was my guess, too.

Their Mule Musiq release is sounding really good too.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 12:08 (ten years ago) link

that ondo fudd ep is the business as well

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 12:11 (ten years ago) link

no digital release -_-

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 12:12 (ten years ago) link

XP heh it's fun to play that "90.3 FM" shout-out in the soulphiction track on my show over the air on the college radio station here, which broadcasts on 90.3 FM. i have to cut out the call letters he announces tho, because they aren't ours... not that it matters much, given that FM radio is kind of a dead medium. u_______u

Nice juxtaposition of elements on that one ^

This is technically 2013 bobbins, but was on a 99 copy run last time, now repressed. Young Marco mix is good, but I prefer the original:

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 23:20 (ten years ago) link

^ love that, but prefer the young marco remix personally. one of his best, though i like most everything he's put out

also feeling all this lord of the isles

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 23:48 (ten years ago) link

young marco is prob my fav dj/producer right now. i've been devouring his mixes and trainspotting them shamelessly. where the hell is his LP that was supposed to come out on ESP last summer?

Kassem Mosse's new album on Workshop is out (via hardwax atm, vinyl and digi), predictably great stuff. there's a short version (edit?) of the gorgeous title track from Staat Aus Glas from last year on there.

My god. Pure ideology. (ey), Monday, 24 February 2014 16:46 (ten years ago) link

A3 is a piece of beauty.

That Kassem Mosse album is so fucking good.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 08:21 (ten years ago) link

I'm panicking as on third listen it still hasn't sinked in me :(

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 5 March 2014 08:48 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I had it on in the background the other day and nothing really grabbed me. That said, I think it's probably something that would be great to have on vinyl and actually mix.

Had the same realization reading the Actress thread the other day, hadn't really considered how great those track would be to work with on different speeds with other records.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 12:33 (ten years ago) link

Sorry if that seems completely obvious btw! I just don't buy vinyl as much as I used to these days :(

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 12:36 (ten years ago) link

I am actually quite stunned by this K Mosse album, it must be just what I need at the moment.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 March 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link

this noisy track by an act called garnier, called rise and fall of the donkey dog, is all kinds of great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNTCiwQyQoc

it is techno, i guess. a very noisy techno.
