tbh, tehresa, I've never known the simple joy of rum & cider. but the most comforting thing in the world would be, I think, a pair of big, huggable St. Bernards: one bearing a keg of cider, the other a keg of rum (cider dog wouldn't take offense if you turned his nose up at his wares). They'd make house calls at all hours of the night, donning raincoats and parkas whenever needed. Will someone plz make this happen?

also I don't think I stole anyone's dreams last night, but I did manage to fall asleep with my music on & wake up, mildly terrified, in the middle of a VERY SCARY Look Blue Go Purple song. can I have some nice dreams tonight, dr feud?

dumbsocietypigeons (unregistered), Monday, 2 March 2009 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

dr feud has no control over your dreams, he just interprets them

я рилли (harbl), Monday, 2 March 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, duh.
it's funny you should mention st. bernards, though, because that is exactly the kind of big dog i hugged!

the Archangel Raphael is apparently the patron saint against nightmares, but somehow that doesn't comfort me much

i had dreams this morning but i mostly forgot them
in one i was about to get on the bus but it kept moving forward very slowly so i couldn't get on. i was walking alongside it. the driver was playing a practical joke on me.

what a jerk!
i think it means you are searching for something you can't quite grasp. OR, you don't feel like you will ever really be "in".

I dreamt that I was in the middle of a clearing in the woods a few miles from my house. I was standing in the middle of a small, circular patch of snow, & I was convinced that I'd just stumbled upon THE SOUTH POLE. This really excited me, and I walked around looking for a signpost or cairn that would prove I was in the right place. At one side of the clearing, I came to the edge of a ≈50 foot high, vertical cliff which formed one bank of a dried up river. I looked down & to my horror discovered a girl and a boy, seemingly dead, lying on their stomachs on the stony bottom of the river bank. They looked like they'd just walked (or uh, fallen) out of a Little House on The Prairie episode. The girl, maybe 8, had on a white-dotted red dress and bonnet; the boy, maybe 5, had on a white, ruffled shirt and brown knickers. I didn't know what to do, so I tossed a handful of snow on each of them and shouted, hoping they were alive. To my relief, they rose to their feet, stretched, and yawned. Without acknowledging me, they started to climb up the cliff, which was buffeted with a crude log wall. When they reached the top, they ran off without thanking me and disappeared into the surrounding woods.

fyi, a kid in my 7th grade class fell to his death at the bottom of a 40-foot cliff during summer vacation, and I had a couple of cliff-related nightmares soon after. I'm not sure if last night's dream has anything to do with that

ok, this was a weird one. I have lots of weird dreams and I always remember them.

I wake up and look in the bathroom mirror. I notice that my hair has thinned so much that I thought I was just about to go bald. (fear of going bald probably). But then in my dream, I realized what happened may have been partially self-mutilation I had done while sleeping. I think I had shaved off lines of hair around my head. Then to make matters worse, I realized that I had stabbed myself while sleeping, several times. my upper torso and part of my face looked like a pencil holder. that's when the blood started dripping out. I layed on my back as if to keep from losing too much blood. I tried to yell for help but I was sort of muffled by the blood in my mouth.

I wont explain part 2 of my dream because it was an entirely different long winded scenario.

When I remembered my dream, I thought it was kinda cool actually, and I never experience any real fear in my dreams anymore so having 100s of pencil sized stab wounds wasn't really a big deal. discuss?

CaptainLorax, Friday, 6 March 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link

are you a pencil pusher at your job? pencil stabbing could represent something about your job, or maybe school.

lil butt (harbl), Saturday, 7 March 2009 01:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm not feelin too too blessed with critical thought tonight, but I'll do my best, Cap'n.

As you point out, you may be afraid of going bald and getting old. But you're also afraid your lifestyle and conscious choices are taxing your body and mind far more than Father Time ever could. You don't (I hope) mutilate yourself in waking life as you do in your dreams, but you're worried that you might be headed toward some sort of physical or mental breakdown. The self-induced baldness suggests that your lifestyle is speeding up the aging process. The cause of and solution to this decline are at least partially within your own hands, since stabbing, unlike male pattern baldness, is a voluntary act. Your attempt to slow the bleeding shows your desire to heal yourself and put your life back together in the face of a cataclysmic setback. Your inability to yell, on the other hand, shows that you feel hesitant or unable to summon other people to your side when you get into trouble.

The fact that you have to look in the mirror to notice your wounds shows that you tend not to recognize your problems until you think very deeply and try to look at yourself roughly as others see you. On a day-to-day basis, it might not seem like anything's wrong, which is why those rare moments of high-level self-analysis are so crucial to your well-being. The mirror might also stand for a person in your life who can help you with that analysis. And like harbl said, the pencil might point to school or work as the sources of your self-destruction. It could also stand for your creative pursuits. Do you go on mescaline binges, starve yourself, get into a ton of barfights, and drive recklessly in the name of your art? Are you a beat poet?

I dreamt I was standing outside my front door with some random middle-aged guy who kept bragging to me about how brilliant his infant son was. His kid had just started reading Nate the Great books at the age of 10 months, and this made me a little jealous because I didn't start reading them until I was at least 6 (years). I wanted the guy to leave me alone, but he just kept talking my ear off like we were old pals.

something new is coming into your life, and you don't know what or who, but you are fighting it or afraid of it. whatever is coming into your life shares some quality with or is in some way represented by the dude and you were trying to avoid that by making him dead.

unregistered, I appreciate you trying to analyze my dream - some of it might be right, that's the most anyone can expect from peer reviews on dreams - which may mean little to nothing at all at some parts but rather are reflections of something we saw that day on tv or felt for the first time that week. but yeah, I appreciate your analysis, and next time I'm here I'll try to write one myself.

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 7 March 2009 20:28 (fifteen years ago) link

np, Lorax, and I'm glad I could (maybe) be of some help. I don't think anyone here is a doctor or a psych major or even a yahoo top answerer, so this board basically amounts a harmless, nonscientific parlor game (much like this and this -- whaddayaknow). but at least it gets people to shares what's been bothering them in a format that's a lot less tedious than a regular dream log. it'd be 1000X more entertaining, of course, if I wasn't the only unregistered user allowed to post here. we can dream.

harbl the father of your dream child sounds like a child-support-dodging deadbeat, and I'd advise you to seek a good attorney asap. also, congrats!
