Charisma.com - Hate

Love this. Would've voted for it if I thought there was a chance in hell it would place.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:52 (ten years ago) link

emil.y and craigo are like my neighbors down the block or something

So the only track on my ballot for which I was the sole voter was Brad Paisley's "Southern Comfort Zone." What happened, some dude?

jaymc, Thursday, 23 January 2014 21:55 (ten years ago) link

Hopefully not the annoying neighbours you hate. xp

Main things I'm kicking myself for: dropping 'Wenu Wenu' for some weird reason, not listening to 'Q.U.E.E.N.' before voting ended.

xp - neighbors I'd want to hang with, like back in the outloud days! I think there were a half dozen things on your ballot that were in my last round of cuts.

def would have voted for 'stoner' or 'danny glover' had i heard them before like yesterday...so incredible

tpp, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:17 (ten years ago) link

i don't remember what i voted for, the same as p&j but with some stuff thrown in, mainly i voted for kacey musgraves, so i was disappointed that there wasn't more kacey musgraves, but i guess that's the way it goes

otoh i expect good things in the album results

j., Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:17 (ten years ago) link

One of my favourite things about the individual ballots is seeing how stuff that I only quite like is vitally important to others, it's a good reminder that there's always more to whatever you're listening to than merely what you hear in it.

Tim F, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:18 (ten years ago) link

didn't know you were checking for TT The Artist, rev! never totally got into her stuff.

one second I'm a goons, then suddenly the goons is me (some dude), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:19 (ten years ago) link

rev, i think if "stoner" had come out three months ago instead of right at nominations time it would have done much better

glad to see your ballot btw!

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:19 (ten years ago) link

Given how many songs we all hear and kind-of-like in a given year, Top 25 is a pretty strict cutoff.

a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:20 (ten years ago) link

That TT track has been my secret DJ weapon this year! Girls go fucking nuts when you put that on.

The Reverend, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:21 (ten years ago) link

Q: would permitting a larger ballot flatten out the results or would it make them more esoteric?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:22 (ten years ago) link

Would depend on how voters reacted, I guess. Also, "flatten" could mean different things. More homogeneous wrt genres, artists,...?

Personally I think 25 works well.

a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:24 (ten years ago) link

it depends on the voters rather than the amount on ballot. In previous years I would have said esoteric (and argued thus)
but now? A larger ballot would work on albums but I dont think tracks.

How about giving the #1 more points tho?

۩, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:25 (ten years ago) link

You could give a "#1 bonus", then you'd have to decide what to do with unweighted ballots and how to minimise fractional scores.

a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:26 (ten years ago) link

The voting system is fine, guys.

The Reverend, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:29 (ten years ago) link

seandalai how different from metal poll is the points here?

۩, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:29 (ten years ago) link

The voting system is fine, guys.

Agree. I was just curious what the effect would be on the results with a larger ballot, and I think the answer is "who knows".

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:30 (ten years ago) link

I'm impressed that 3 other people voted for Paramore's "last hope"! That was my number 1. Didn't really expert it to get any votes.

how's life, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:30 (ten years ago) link

only change to voting I would make is to not allow ballots from people who have never posted

sleeve, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:30 (ten years ago) link

Metal albums poll had weighted ballots only, 50 votes per ballot, points go 50,49,...,1.

a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:31 (ten years ago) link

There are some names I don't recognise but I think the vast majority of voters are legit and I'm not really interested in policing who can and cannot vote.

a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:32 (ten years ago) link

so I am the top blood sausage voter that did a full 25 ballot, i deserve some prize for that

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:32 (ten years ago) link

Glad to see some tricot tracks showing up, threw my main weight behind the album, will maybe get enough votes to go top 100.

― a man with legs made of sausages - that's not real! (seandalai),

I thought some years we gave the #1 more weight?

and re real users - in metal poll there's tons of names I dunno yet they've been voting year in year out since glenn and i started it and they had to email in ballots back then.
I do wish Cronos Smith would identify himself tho!

actually a few lurkers did de-lurk this year on ilm and the poll thread.

there's never any block voting either to suggest its fake ballots. I think ilxors are too grown up to bother with that shit.
