mmm, latte.

argh, my concentration is not good. I keep thinking instead about my homework and the silent war I'm raging against my boss. He should be gone after 11, maybe it will be easier to work then.

guys i need a recipe for like a chipotle garnish for a salmon burger. why can't i find a cooking thread?

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

You'll get better results if you go straight to epicurious.com or foodnetwork.com. It's flattering that you'd think of ILX first though.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:39 (sixteen years ago) link

haha no no i DID go to epicurious first but then don't have the exact thing i want. maybe i'll try foodnetwork.com...

i dunno see i'm a REALLY bad googler sometimes, and ILX caters to me "just gimme the answer" impulse =P

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

get some general ideas and then make it up yourself.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:41 (sixteen years ago) link

yes i think that's really going to be the strategy - i love experimenting with flavors. have my instincts are good enough for it (the other half need the recipe)

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

i really am trying to type intelligbly :-)

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

This one looks good (o jesus, it's from "Dweezil and Lisa") --

Chipotle Dressing:
4 tablespoons white wine vinegar
4 tablespoons water
2 small shallots, or 2 tablespoons white onions, diced
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons honey
1 egg yolk*
3 chipotle peppers in adobo
1 cup olive oil (not extra-virgin)

Place the first 7 ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 1 minute. With the blender running, slowly drizzle in oil, and blend until emulsified. Reserve until needed.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

thank you!!!! see, it would have taken me like 2 hours to track this down.

really though, isn't there a cooking thread?

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:46 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a whole cooking sub-board!

hahahaha DOH! :-)

lol dweezil and lisa

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm pissed off at Epicurious for short-circuiting the Firefox search-bar engine. You used to be able to go straight to the results, but now it always goes to the site's front page.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

i just started using firefox... it's a whole new world for me! this recipe looks really good i am very appreciative

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:53 (sixteen years ago) link

xcept all i have is extra virgin and that's gonna have to work

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Bye all! Ronan, enjoy Spain. I would be jealous but will be having too much fun. Byeeeeee!!

kv_nol, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Also: FISH IS DISGUSTING. There. I said it.

kv_nol, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I would use x-virgin as well if I were making it. If I want a more neutral oil I'll use canola, fuck a non-virgin olive oil. (xxp)

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

kv, U MAD

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

bye Kv! You're mad, fish is fantastic.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:57 (sixteen years ago) link

haha i know, so picky!

oh geez my love for fish goes deep

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I went on a big Pico de Gallo binge a while back, just red bell pepper, jalapeno (careful! Just one, diced tiny, and don't rub your eyes afterwards!), tomato, vidalia onion and cilantro, all choppety choppety with salt and lots of lime. It a fabulous gussy-up for canned black beans. Add grilled chicken chorizo and a glop of sour cream and you've got yourself a five-star meal.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

This red bell pepper intrigues me. Did it sweeten the pico up too much?

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Now I'm going to have fish for lunch. Maybe. If I can get myself up out of this chair.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

eating out in the summer, it's always hard not to order fish. oooh beth that sounds amazing. i am doing beans with my salmon burgers tonight...

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

i LOVE red bell peppers, so versatile!

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I love a little sweet crunch in there. The lime prevents any too-sweetness.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

The vidalia onion is just as sweet as the bell pepper, too. Soaked in lime it becomes like apple.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

i made up a bean salad: black, chick and corn, with dressing consisting of: lemon juice, olive oil, maille honey mustard (the fucking best), touch of white wine vinegar, honey, salt ppr

mmmmmm!

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

so this "chipotle peppers in adobo" - is that just like marinated peppers? what?

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Where are you, surmounter? New York? I have that vague idea. It's salsa weather here in Nuevo England, that's for sure. I have to go water at my jobs—the crackly dryness! I have sent my houseguests to the beach without me (three days in a row, I am bad.)

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link

It's a specific product, it'll be in cans, not jars. They're smoked jalapenos in a smoky chili-powder sauce. They pack a pretty good kick.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link

It is always salsa weather in Texas, praise Jesus.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

haha, that's what the beach is for! aimless houseguests. yes, i am in new york. and let me tell you, i have been eating loads of salsa - i've recently gotten into the ones with fruit. paul newman's with pineapple is really tasty.

where are you again beth?

oooh that sounds really great rock

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

guys i look really cute today

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm on Martha's Vineyard. OH! Off-Topic! Hillary was here, speaking at a big open-air tabernacle, and we just kind of stumbled upon it. We were picking up houseguests at the boat. So we went to hear her and I shook Bill's hand! These loudmouth women standing near me started calling out to him (after her speech was over) AND HE CAME!!!! LIKE A GOOD DOG!!!! He seemed very tired but was radiating amazing warmth. He shook everyone's outstretched hand, saying "thank you for coming out," over and over in his high, scratchy voice. I wished I could have said something, but I was tongue-tied.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

But I'm sure you are almost as cute as Bill, Surmounter.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I <3 Bill.

My friend saw Howard Dean speaking at their neighbors when she was there last week.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

!!! so amazing

oh i dunno about that Beth -- i don't wanna step to bill.

i certainly woulda flipped

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

omg srsly, why is bill SO cute. like he's not only adorable he somehow pulls of sexy as well. and WARMTH otm

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

What does "<3" mean? I am dumb.
Obama and Edwards were here, too, but Hillary was the only one you could see for free. I wanted to see them all, but not at a $1000-a-plate dinner at some high-roller's trophy house.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

"heart"

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

haha beth turn ur head to the right

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

=P

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, I get it!
As soon as I saw the top of Bill's head (which you can spot a mile away 'cause he's eight feet tall) I started hyperventilating.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

haha i can only imagine

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm mad at Hillary because she voted for the war, so I'm voting for Obama in the primaries, but that said, if she wins the nomination and the election I WILL BE SO EXCITED!!!!! AND BILL WILL BE BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:24 (sixteen years ago) link

yes it is almost too much to think about, i would be completely overwhelmed

Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I really want Obama to win the primary but I'm worried about his numbers.

If Hillary wins it will be yet another campaign where I feel like I'm voting for someone just to make sure the other person loses. :(

Ms Misery, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I never "got" Bill in the primaries before his first term, because I only read the paper. There was the Gennifer Flowers thing, and I thought, uh-oh, this guy's got too much baggage. And then I heard him on the radio and went "OHHHH...I GET IT NOW!!!!" He had a little cold so was a bit congested and snuffly, and the amazing sexiness! Lordy!

Beth Parker, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I know. Hillary—she's such a politician. But it'll be incredibly exciting if it happens. We'll get swept up in it, I'm sure. The first woman prez HAS to be a bloodless calculating and ambition-driven. She's not gonna be our dream-gal.
