it is quite a visual masterpiece, although it does tend to imply that tom ford's signature fragrance has notes of spunk, sweat, santorum.

nothing personal, cutty!

chaki, Monday, 3 March 2008 01:27 (sixteen years ago) link

myself, i use calendula deodorant, that pink clubman talcum powder, and sometimes royal lyme aftershave. if i'm going to wear an actual fragrance, i'll wear maybe a musk, and sparingly.

elmo argonaut, Monday, 3 March 2008 01:29 (sixteen years ago) link

i quit smoking ten days ago and had something weird happen to me last night at environ bar mitzvah -- my sense of smell suddenly came back on line and was humming along at x10 power. the whole night i was smelling things i hadn't noticed in years, like an amputee restored.

sanskrit, Monday, 3 March 2008 02:03 (sixteen years ago) link

LOL @ douche chill!

roxymuzak, Monday, 3 March 2008 02:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 3 March 2008 08:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe Noize Board wouldn't be a rolling depository of bad dates stories and towga tales if you guys manned up and realized most girls would rather go out with a dude who smells good than someone who stinks out of principle.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 3 March 2008 08:24 (sixteen years ago) link

not so much bad stories anymore. its mostly chicks making plans now.

chaki, Monday, 3 March 2008 08:27 (sixteen years ago) link

Was there lots of cologne reek at Cake Shop, or does QxBxRx draw the sweaty gays?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:19 (sixteen years ago) link

IF YOU PUT A DROP OF VANILLA ON YR NECK U WILL SMELL LIKE A COOKIE ALL DAY

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

if you spray your clothes with febreeze, does it actually make them smell less, or does it just make them smell like febreeze? i've been wondering about this for a long time.

bell_labs, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Do not want cooky.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

the clothes will smell like febreeze, which stinks. imho.

lauren, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:27 (sixteen years ago) link

ah, that is what i expected :(

bell_labs, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

i guess i need to take a bunch of stuff to the dry cleaner this week.

bell_labs, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

It gets smoke out ok.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

What I really need to know is whether dry cleaning ACTUALLY removes skin oils and shed cells that might be carrying bacteria. Washing does it with detergent & agitation, but dry cleaning involves neither of those. Otherwise I'll just hand-wash the bulk of my dry-cleanables.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

i avoid reeking like a douchebag by spraying into the hallway and then strutting through the perfume mist like a runway model

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link

this is tough to confess. i HATE cologne. but i own some sort of? one time going to academy i stopped at http://www.cbihateperfume.com/CBperfumeindex.html
and got a small container of moist earth. smells like the forest!

sanskrit, Monday, 3 March 2008 15:49 (sixteen years ago) link

dry cleaning seems like a crock. i hand wash what i can, but you can't really handwash a suit jacket, yknow?

Br1tta says she dry cleaned a blouse she bought that had BO and it had BO after :(

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I know, labs. Thinking I might gently soak & rub the cuffs and collars of suit jackets in a mild Woolite sl'n and then just take to dry cleaner to be pressed/steamed? Ugh work I do not need.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, Jon, that's what I was worried about, I have had same thing happen. Maybe quality of cleaning job varies by establishment, though? Quality of pressing and presentation sure does.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

the drycleaners on my street are so expensive. at least $5 an item. so i haven't gotten anything drycleaned in months and months. do you know of a cheaper place in prospect height l? i have a garment steamer but it does nothing for the smell.

bell_labs, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Surely Lauren or Steve Shasta will come by with some sensible advice.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I used to go to the nice one on corner of Vanderbilt and Park. Not cheap. Places along Washington Ave were cheaper but also the work was highly questionable, still smelled, badly pressed, sleeves not stuffed with tissue for storage, etc.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:14 (sixteen years ago) link

i dontr buy dry cleaning....i think the careful handwash/soak is the way to go...

course if some of us gave up certain habits, it'd help on that end...

i like some of the chris brosius stuff, but i think he may just be a dick, which has held me back from buying a bottle of something that smells like an old english library, whiskey, and tobacco...my ladyfriend has some of his things that i thinkk are subtle and decent..

that said i passed older couple on my walk home this am and littereally gagged due to the cloud of smell about them...

bb, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

i kinda like when people wear distinct or offbeat fragrances; in the summer my boyfriend wears a fragrance by demeter that smells of fresh-cut grass.

the only designer fragrance i find remotely appealing is armani code, but generally i tend to think smelling clean >>> smelling pretty

elmo argonaut, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

when i was making scented candles, i would sometimes get off work and people would ask me what scent i was wearing. I AM WEARING SMELLY WAX, PPL.

elmo argonaut, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:44 (sixteen years ago) link

drycleaning is a necessary evil for me as i have no desire to attempt to handwash and dry wool, silk, or finicky vintage fabrics. i'd rather spend the money than risk ruining things.

lauren, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I need to quit smoking people.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:49 (sixteen years ago) link

i handwash silk, cashmere and acrylic all the time with cold water and woolite. wool is a pain though. heavy sweaters and suits with linings i would not attempt to do at home.

bell_labs, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago) link

as im hosting easter ina few weeks, i need to do something about how my apt/office now just smells of a winter of food, sloth, and cigarettes...and since i have to run over to downtown w.berg im sincerely thinking about some c brosius home spray...

and opening all the windows before i leave

yeah..coats and goodamned suits require this crap called drycleaning

bb, Monday, 3 March 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago) link

armani code

i use this when i do use cologne

and yeah its the spray in the air/walk thru technique that keeps you from reeking

deej, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:00 (sixteen years ago) link

i think its called armani code black

deej, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Isn't perfume supposed to be bad for clothing? I don't walk through it for that reason, also b/c it's supposed to be activated/enhanced by yr body temp and on my hair is not the place for that. Dab on wrists/in pits.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I wash heavy sweaters at home and dry on a rack. Have wanted some of those flat drying screens to block things to shape on but I can't store any more stuff. Maybe next apartment.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:16 (sixteen years ago) link

i walk thru it after drying off from shower, before putting on clothes
and the problem w/ cologne generally is too many people are concerned w/ activating/enhancing it and it ends up smelling strong and really very gross

deej, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

So it couldn't just be that they're wearing too much? Good to know.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

theres that too

most guys who would be in to that dont need it

deej, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I've had a bunch of the Demeter scents but the prob is that they're colognes, suspended in alcohol and with not much scent compound in them. Wear off after like an hour, which when I'm getting ready for a 12-hour day isn't really enough.

Laurel, Monday, 3 March 2008 17:29 (sixteen years ago) link

most guys who would be in to that dont need itwould be better off actually wearing deodorant
