OH SHIT

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 8 May 2005 00:22 (eighteen years ago) link

only complaint: why recompile "amazon" and "jupiter jazz" again? people will be buying "depth charge vol 1", if they know what's good for them. they could have put on the 4hero mix of "amazon" instead, as well as unedited versions of "the theory" (melanic mix?) and "hitech jazz" (science mix?).

Price:$0.00

result!

i was wondering where the hi tech jazz love was - i was listening to that and Galaxy2Galaxy today. never tires.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 May 2005 00:39 (eighteen years ago) link

i suppose there's not much love for "jazzy" house/techno on ILM.

is jeff mills "live at the liquid room" out of print? if not, where can it be found? no luck on ebay

Ô¿Ô (eman), Sunday, 17 July 2005 16:37 (eighteen years ago) link

OOP, probably.

Pops up on amazon used frequently enough for around £10 (put it in your wishlist, check every so often, works for me).

omg transition!! i've been hearing it a lot recently, only just got round to googling the lyrics to find out what it is.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:29 (eighteen years ago) link

"live at the liquid room" is probably the best thing, ever. $25 on ebay right now.

I want the 'Soul Power' Z-track on vinyl so so so so bad. I made myself a CD-R edit (off the Aztech Mystic mix cd) to play on the CDJ but it's just not the same. Maybe at the next movement I'll mug a UR dj and steal his copy. And then hope Mad Mike doesn't sic his UR sonic killer bee commandos on me.

They finally got around to releasing this to the general public. I got my copy and didn't even have to commit any crimes to do it! Stoked.

I just got Rolando's Vibrations mix and really love it. The "squelchy breakbeat techno and electro" that Vahid describes is perfectly calibrated such that it's accessible and energising but not overtly retro-self-conscious.

i suppose there's not much love for "jazzy" house/techno on ILM.

i was thinking about this recently. why is this? is it simply because so much of it is so fucking atrocious, or because of some hatred of jazz (ie 'Jazz Douchebags' thread)?

anyway, i am listening to Sun Chaser and am enjoying myself.

the table is the table, Saturday, 24 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

the jazzy UR stuff is dope!

lfam, Sunday, 25 February 2007 01:09 (seventeen years ago) link

"nocturbulous behavior" is really something else, yeah? i'm putting it on right now ... the one thing that bugs about it is no MIDNIGHT SUNSHINE, pretty much his best track ever.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 25 February 2007 01:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i would suggest that if you are having trouble finding any UR stuff on slsk that you do the whole free e-music thing. they have such an astounding quantity of UR and UR-associated stuff...so if you don't mind somewhat iffay qualitay, then go for it.

i just bought this:

it is pretty sweet, specially the b-side.

the table is the table, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 23:08 (seventeen years ago) link

It's alright, that record is probably the best of the not-so-classic UR electro records.

Display Name, Thursday, 29 March 2007 03:24 (seventeen years ago) link

for $5 at a none-too-good record store, take what i can get.

the table is the table, Thursday, 29 March 2007 03:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Hahah I was playing that exact record when I opened up this thread tonight. I got mine for $3.99 used though :P 'Toxin' jams hard.

I found Living For The Night for a couple bucks last time I was in Chicago. A pretty cool find.

finally got 320kbps copy of the 'World 2 World' EP via Beatport recently :)

blueski, Thursday, 29 March 2007 10:39 (seventeen years ago) link

the table is the table, Thursday, 29 March 2007 13:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't if this has been posted, Mad Mike interview feature from the Slices DVD.

Thanks for that Michael.

matt2, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i should point out that the nocturbulous behavior mix is on emusic as a cost-effective all-in-one-track download

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

why do i see it as three tracks totaling 16 mins?

Just finished listening to Galaxy 2 Galaxy. I don't like everything on the records, but when it hits, it hits like a ton of bricks.

I have to give it up for Hi-Tech Jazz. It takes the whole deep house sound set and takes the form and lays down a sampler horn part than just screams I am somebody. Everything on that track is perfect, programming, writing, arrangements. Love the 808 perc breaks and the acidline break has to be one of the best acid lines in dance music. I loved the way he used it to play a jazz solo that was a bitch to program.

Star Sailing and Metamorposis are great as well.

You have to respect Mike Banks. UR isn't consistent, but when it is good it is the best ever.

Galaxy to Galaxy - the most beautiful, emotive, otherworldly record I have ever heard
-- Spreadlove, Wednesday, September 4, 2002 7:47 PM (4 years ago) Bookmark Link

I don't know if it is the greatest, but it is near the top of the list.

Display Name, Thursday, 21 June 2007 08:10 (sixteen years ago) link

i would like to say that "Backroad to Nirvana" off the waveforms EP is probably one of the best techno songs ever.

the table is the table, Thursday, 21 June 2007 12:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I have never sewn my precious UR patch ("sonic warfare division", motherfuckers!) anywhere but the day I find the right garment you can be sure I'll be wearing it front & center every day I can!

blunt, Thursday, 21 June 2007 12:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I think it was mentioned above (or somewhere) but this newest one by Mad Mike also finds him in great form.

great. now my UR feature in the crappy DJ magazine i write for will be seen as pathetic.

is the article any good?

also, not that surprising. UR is name-dropped A LOT nowadays.
