gotta feel like eventually the celtics will roll some of those draft picks into a real player. they're bordering on too many picks if they're not already

yeah danny is from the acquire assets school, hes happy to make slight trade ups until he sees an opening, thats how they got kg

same approach they used to pick up harden in houston

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:03 (ten years ago) link

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:05 (ten years ago) link

helps that ainge such a good drafter, the players he chooses are often worth more than they wouldve been as picks

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:05 (ten years ago) link

even like he picked up crawford for nothing and just spun him into two picks

2014 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Brooklyn will convey the less favorable of its 2014 1st round pick and Atlanta's 2014 1st round pick to Boston (via Atlanta's right to swap for Brooklyn) [Atlanta-Brooklyn, 7/11/2012 and then Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

2015 first round draft pick from L.A. Clippers
L.A. Clippers' 2015 1st round pick to Boston [Boston-L.A. Clippers, 6/25/2013]

2015 second round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento's 2015 2nd round pick to Boston protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Boston will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/17/2009]

2016 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Brooklyn's 2016 1st round pick to Boston [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

2017 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Boston has the right to swap its 2017 1st round pick for Brooklyn's 2017 1st round pick; if Boston exercises this swap right, then Boston will convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Brooklyn protected for selections 31-45 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Boston's obligation to Brooklyn will be extinguished) [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

2017 second round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento's 2017 2nd round pick to Boston protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Boston will be extinguished) [Boston-Sacramento, 2/24/2011]

2018 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Brooklyn's 2018 1st round pick to Boston [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

one of those nets picks is gonna be in the lottery

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:11 (ten years ago) link

yeah

k3vin k., Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:12 (ten years ago) link

this years brooklyn pick could easily be pretty sweet if atl didnt have the right to swap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:12 (ten years ago) link

at the very least

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:12 (ten years ago) link

lol brooklyn haggling over small time shit like this while getting totally fleeced

if Boston exercises this swap right, then Boston will convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Brooklyn protected for selections 31-45 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Boston's obligation to Brooklyn will be extinguished)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:16 (ten years ago) link

are there rules governing draft pick protections & swapping or is it just whatever two teams agree on

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:22 (ten years ago) link

feel like maybe you can only do it so far out in the future is the only thing

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 18:23 (ten years ago) link

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-pistons-shouldnt-be-this-bad/

i'm more or less baffled at lowe's bafflement here. it would have been much more surprising to me if this ridiculous team worked as constructed.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 January 2014 23:22 (ten years ago) link

yeah that team was an open disaster from a conception standpoint i didn't get the tone of that article either

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 23:25 (ten years ago) link

i mean i guess i'm surprised by how bad they are defensively but their overall record and offensive problems were blatantly obvious

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 January 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

yeah i wouldve guessed theyd be slight better

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:29 (ten years ago) link

I'm just gonna reaffirm my love for Danny ainge

He turned the almost literal corpse of Barbosa into Crawford and turned Crawford into some picks, one potentially a first rounder

I mean look at that giant pile of picks, even crazier that he got one for a coach who was ready to check out and they still have all their own, even low first rounders are super valued now bc teams need those cheap contracts under the new CBA- even if some of those later Brooklyn ones are mediocre gms are gonna be circling the like vultures when it comes time for some current taxpayers to try to get under the repeat penalties

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:29 (ten years ago) link

And obviously some of the last Brooklyn ones are gonna be lottery jams

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:30 (ten years ago) link

I think we found out sometime last thread that you can only trade picks 7 or 8 years out max

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:30 (ten years ago) link

jackson really needs to mix up his lineups better tho my god, like two starters shd be on the court at all times, theres no reason why thats not feasible

― lag∞n, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 12:44 PM (6 hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Z Lowe noted this and says the reasoning is so he can get his five starters max minutes together, I'd imagine it also helps reduce their minutes a touch to go with a full bench mob at times, but yeah I agree, u only go 8 deep in the playoffs anyway so he better get a plan for that together by the spring

Like Crawford for them though some Nate rob "steal a playoff quarter" potential there

z-time champion (agent hibachi), Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:32 (ten years ago) link

cad otm re Detroit and Lowe not otm any hoops head should have known that team was gonna be garbage

Only possible positives were the high numbers of lefties and maybe a monster breakout from Drummond

good game.

it's funny how good of a GM ainge is and how patient he is considering he's a former player and one who was pretty fiercely competitive, you wouldn't think he'd be on board with tanking in his next life watching him play

it's corny but he really may have learned some things from Auerbach. When Red was asked about waiting a year on Bird he said "Do you realize how short a period of time a year is?"

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 16 January 2014 00:41 (ten years ago) link

dear kev,
we wanted to let u know the marshon brooks era is over and stay tuned for when we turn more trash into future picks
