I've seen The Verdict probably 10 times and didn't know about Bruce Willis.
A friend and I used to imitate Newman's speech when Milo O'Shea calls everyone into chambers: "You were a bag man for the boys downtown, and you still are--I know about you."

love that bit in The Verdict where Newman and Mason *finally* get a scene alone together and Mason goes to say something, changes his mind, says nothing, sighs and walks out the door. amazing!

I don't remember if Lumet mentioned the scene in his DVD commentary track. I hope the two actors improvised it.

The top 3 rankings, and the distance between each of them, rather nicely reflect my level of enthusiasm towards these performances (I haven't seen Gandhi or Missing).

Alfred: George Gaynes had a pretty big part in Washington Behind Closed Doors, which I just finished the other day. He played Brewster Perry, one of Richard Monckton's (Nixon's) money guys. I kept waiting for him to look helplessly at someone and say, "Does Monckton know?"

O'Toole is entirely in Hoffman's league, I probably voted for him.

O'Toole is in Hoffman's league, but My Favorite Year is nowhere near Tootsie's league.

You're such a tickly-wiggly!
Next time I'm at a supper club, I'm getting a Dubonnet with a twist.

I ordered a Dubonnet w/a twist b/c of Tootsie ten years ago. Gross.
However, on a trip to NYC in 2006 I hit the Russian Tea Room. It's smaller than I thought! I did order a double vodka, I think.

The Russian Tea Room closed at the location you see in Tootsie, then reopened some years later at the new place.

no, my error. It was closed for four years, but it's the same location.
