it's rather low for metal poll, yeah, but hopefully it will flood in once everyones back to work/college.

Voted!

Siegbran, Friday, 3 January 2014 14:39 (ten years ago) link

thanks!

btw guys Campaigning really does work so please go for it. Remember jeff got some dodgy stuff in a few years back just by campaigning!
Siegbran has the right idea.

So discuss any of the albums nominated (or tracks) in here!

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Friday, 3 January 2014 15:39 (ten years ago) link

second the avatarium album.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Friday, 3 January 2014 21:47 (ten years ago) link

Yeah Avatarium is pretty great... I'm liking Brimstone Coven a lot too!

That Batillus record, Concrete Sustain was my number one. Sludgey, doomy goodness with an industrial edge. Just what the genre needs, I think. Its innovated and doesn't feel stiff like most industrial stuff can get.

For what it's worth, I think the reason that the Sahg has been mostly overlooked is because it doesn't come out in the states until February.

J3ff T., Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

Also, you guys need to listen to the Germ album – especially those of you who think that the Deafheaven is boring. Streaming here: http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/streaming-germs-grief/

J3ff T., Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:09 (ten years ago) link

Germ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Deafheaven

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:09 (ten years ago) link

Tried to click the "favorite" button BUT THERE ISN'T ONE

J3ff T., Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link

you clicked the favorite button in my heart.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:17 (ten years ago) link

Cool, just what I'm looking for. I've been wanting to hear more blackened post-punk sounds since getting into the Vaura album. Is there much other stuff in this vein out there?

jmm, Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:32 (ten years ago) link

xp Don't see how it matters these days, as the Sahg is available digitally worldwide via Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay, etc. III never even had a U.S. release. What label is putting it out? Hope that means they'll actually tour the U.S.

Fastnbulbous, Saturday, 4 January 2014 22:05 (ten years ago) link

and its not like the rolling promo crew dont get their promos months earlier anyway

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 4 January 2014 22:51 (ten years ago) link

i listened to germ with high expectations, it was wack

j., Saturday, 4 January 2014 23:04 (ten years ago) link

It matters if the people that make the lists (critics) don't get the album until well into the next year – most writers probably won't be getting it until February unless they're doing a review like I am. And if they don't get the album as a promo, they usually means that they don't realize that it exists. Just kind of how works. Writers often get the album only several weeks ahead of the release date, not months.

Also, J, have you considered that the wackness lies with you and not Germ?

J3ff T., Sunday, 5 January 2014 00:27 (ten years ago) link

hypothesis considered and REJECTED

j., Sunday, 5 January 2014 02:02 (ten years ago) link

Not feeling that Germ.. I'm thinking this is gonna be the new trend though. A former drum student of my sent me a link a few months ago doing something similar-he didn't get into the new wave up tempos, but the vibe was very close. One man bands, non performance more than likely, dark, none blast beat black metal, that has a dark wave feel.. I think this will be a little more appealing to a lot of folks as well. It don't do shit for me, but whatevs..

SeanWayne, Sunday, 5 January 2014 03:07 (ten years ago) link

I'm stunned right now at how good the Bölzer EP is. Such a huge sound and so expressive.

jmm, Sunday, 5 January 2014 04:03 (ten years ago) link

Entranced by the Wolfshook, holy shit. That's one of the hugest opening riffs I've ever heard.

jmm, Sunday, 5 January 2014 04:36 (ten years ago) link

anybody with passing interest in space rock or stoner rock should probably spend sixty minutes of their lives checking out this album from the Cosmic Dead. It's p far out, but I dug it.

i apologize in advance for not voting in this but no lie, i have not listened to a single new album this year

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Monday, 6 January 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link

The tracks spreadsheet seems to be missing a lot of nominations. A bunch were submitted Dec. 20-23.

jmm, Monday, 6 January 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link

oh. I left that to fnb, sorry.

Remember guys you only have until THIS FRIDAY to vote

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

We only have 11 ballots in so PLEASE VOTE BEFORE FRIDAY'S CLOSING DATE

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 17:03 (ten years ago) link

Is this going to be the end of ILM metal polls? That would be too bad cuz I always felt the results were by far the best, most well-rounded of all the metal polls. One list to rule them all \m/

However, if Deafheaven win this year I take that back, cuz seriously, they can suckit ;)

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 6 January 2014 17:44 (ten years ago) link

as I posted on the thread drugs a money bumped
2010 had 80 ballots
2011 had 74 ballots
2012 under new management there was 51 ballots

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 17:46 (ten years ago) link

BTW I had no access to the spreadsheet for tracks, and did not volunteer for that nonsense. I can barely keep track of the hundreds and hundreds of albums. I will vote for tracks from what's available though.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 6 January 2014 17:47 (ten years ago) link

If we dont have enough votes for a rollout it will probably be just a list in one go of the top 10 or so. so please vote!

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 18:58 (ten years ago) link

Another vote! thanks kkdominator!

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 20:39 (ten years ago) link

we now have the Twelve Votes of Christmas :)

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 20:40 (ten years ago) link

I could pretty easily come up with the minimum 5 albums from the fairly comprehensive album list, but scanning that track list, there are only 2 songs I recognize. Not sure if I'll have enough time to listen through the rest before Friday. Is the tracks ballot required?

o. nate, Monday, 6 January 2014 20:55 (ten years ago) link

no its voluntary. there is a playlist on spotify tho

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:10 (ten years ago) link

Okay, thanks. I'll try to listen to it before Friday.

o. nate, Monday, 6 January 2014 21:12 (ten years ago) link

if someone gives me the list of tracks noms missed i will ask seandalai to add them to the document. as we dont have many ballots in it wont matter PLUS anyone can resubmit their vote

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link

To switch gears to campaigning for a bit, I think more people should be talking about the Obliteration album, "Black Death Horizon". I'm not an expert on metal sub-genres. This seems vaguely death-metal though with a distinct sound of their own, especially the high-pitched yelped vocals which are great. Great raw and loose sound.

o. nate, Monday, 6 January 2014 21:20 (ten years ago) link
