Will second the earlier recommendation for John Luther Adams. Check "The Light That Fills The World" for some crystalline beauty.

two weeks pass...

Any inspiration from the current weather?

afriendlypioneer, Thursday, 9 January 2014 15:33 (ten years ago) link

Well, it is bright, sunny and warmer here, so I would say Laraaji's "Day of Radiance".

Though we did still have more snow last night.

nine months pass...

That thread about "extremely twinkly music" reminded me to bump this thread.

Thurston Moore/Tom Surgal "Lydia's Moth" (really beautiful duo)

also, Thurston's guitar bits on the Heavy motion picture soundtrack, especially "Victor and Callie". used to lead off a lot of mix tapes with that track, and/or "Blossom" by The Folk Implosion

this is more for like, if it's snowing outside and there isn't heating in your poorly insulated apartment

Eno's "Small Craft on a Milk Sea" specifically excellent while looking out the window of a moving train during a heavy snow.

this is more of a summer nights album, but it's pretty, regardless

finally listened to that Richard Pinhas's Iceland earlier

sort of unsettling and abrasive. not quite what i was looking for. :(

afriendlypioneer, Monday, 21 November 2016 21:26 (seven years ago) link

I like the cover art, though. I was hopeful.

Lithops - umi unit has some gorgeous, warm and groovy tracks. along the same lines, Microstoria Model 3, Step 2 sets up an ultra-warm, fragmented, and melody-rich atmosphere - there's a strong plasticity and fluid quality of action to the sound structures.

in a similar vein, it's not snowing but it's cold and gray outside -- oval's systemisch is sounding pretty great rn

clouds, Thursday, 24 November 2016 18:08 (seven years ago) link

that oval is nice. ovalprocess is the only album of his that i've really embraced, though "do while" is sublime.

we got another, heavier (5 inches on the benches) snowstorm last night in the Salt Lake Valley. even though i'm not a native, "we don't get storms like we used to." - i hope that changes.

https://soundcloud.com/leheron_idletones/it-snowed-feet-are-cold-version

usually break this track out, every time we get our first storm
