lawrence's 'the absence of blight' is good for this too, it's like watching snowy fields from a train.

If I'm walking through snow, I wanna hear Grieg's "Klokkeklang" (Bell-Ringing) for piano.

90s Low has the right stillness and space plus gorgeous harmonies. Try the Long Division LP. "Shame" or "Violence"' will give you a taste.

sorry for self-linking but it's pretty fucking glacial and chime-y:

Anyone else?

Want that feeling of being trapped on a glacier with the wind whistling past my ears and a glaciaxylophone is quietly playing somewhere far away

man, low is the answer, especially if you're looking for music for a cold winter day. if you're looking for cold weather night-music, the list opens up, e.g., burial; dirty beaches; the sinking of the titanic; the disintegration loops; etc., etc.

I've been working through this list. It's actually pretty good.

For some reason this is something I only listen to when it is cold out, and works right along with the Guaraldi Peanuts tunes as go-to Winter music. Definitely is chiming and atmospheric:

I have listened to it about 5 times in a row, it is just the best.

John Luther Adams

John Luther Adams (born January 23, 1953 in Meridian, Mississippi) is an American composer whose music is inspired by nature, especially the landscapes of Alaska where he has lived since 1978.[1]

Sibelius Symphony No.3 - the whole thing really but the first movement is especially snowy, flying over the landscape music.

Pretty much any Pantha Du Prince works in the snow but the newest one with the Bell Laboratory especially so:

Also, Vespertine in its entirety obviously.

This Pantha du Prince & The Bell Laboratory is almost exactly what I've been looking for. All I remember of Pantha du Prince is that he did a track or two with Panda Bear, which made me reluctant to further check him out. I know that's a really shitty way to go about listening to music, but I just find those guys so distasteful.

Anyway, thanks. You've opened my mind.

Lithops - umi unit has some gorgeous, warm and groovy tracks. along the same lines, Microstoria Model 3, Step 2 sets up an ultra-warm, fragmented, and melody-rich atmosphere - there's a strong plasticity and fluid quality of action to the sound structures.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Monday, 21 November 2016 22:11 (seven years ago) link

in a similar vein, it's not snowing but it's cold and gray outside -- oval's systemisch is sounding pretty great rn

clouds, Thursday, 24 November 2016 18:08 (seven years ago) link

that oval is nice. ovalprocess is the only album of his that i've really embraced, though "do while" is sublime.

we got another, heavier (5 inches on the benches) snowstorm last night in the Salt Lake Valley. even though i'm not a native, "we don't get storms like we used to." - i hope that changes.

https://soundcloud.com/leheron_idletones/it-snowed-feet-are-cold-version

usually break this track out, every time we get our first storm
