also, here is a link to that Sabu Martinez 12 i mentioned upthread. the Africolaps statement only makes sense listening beginning-->end, but you get the idea.

(not really angry, I just like the .gif)

4 days into 2007 there aren't exactly mountains of new tracks to discuss... I think the unearthing of the original track (thanks discogs) is interesting but yes, perhaps the wrong thread for it.

a (rslvd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:42 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost - p.s. redundant post ;)

Being back on real ILM for barely a day is probably discouraging the bumping of older threads so far (I looked anyway, and can't find the '06 version)

not trying to drag out the FZ debate but that 'pobjednicki cocek' is absolutely mega. love it!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 4 January 2007 23:37 (seventeen years ago) link

the 06/07 issue: as it is very early in the year, i think it's worth talking about stuff that came out in the last month or two of last year. except fizheuer, which i am sick of talking about.

Prins Thomas's remix of Lee Jones' "There Comes A Time" on Aus Music is amazing....

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 6 January 2007 01:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Just noticed this from the end of AMG's review of Magda's "Dancing Machine" mix":

"This is a disciplined, focused mix (one of the best of 2006 to be sure) from a DJ whose time in the shadows making tea is now a mere memory."

Quite a far reaching meme.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 6 January 2007 19:25 (seventeen years ago) link

so far I like David K - Maryann [Cocoon] - kind of a cross between Rej and Stefanik's Deviant Behaviour.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Villalobos's 18 minute remix of Blood on my hands forthcoming on Shackleton's Skull Disco. Philip Sherburne waxes lyrical about it on his blog. Excited? Yes I am.

jimn (jimnaseum), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Quite a far reaching meme.

Not when there's less than two degrees of separation between reviewer and DJ.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm sure the new Claude Von Stroke material is going to be nice nice nice. Saw him again last night and he killed it. Really, his style is a bit more house, a bit more funky than I like. But his sets are always fun and do more to remind me that I do ACTUALLY like some house rather than write it off all together.

Cameron Octigan (Cameron Octigan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 00:00 (seventeen years ago) link

the villalobos shackleton is great, if a tad on the long side but is an edit rather than a remix.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:00 (seventeen years ago) link

A tad on the long side: the Ricardo Villalobos story.

jimn (jimnaseum), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:11 (seventeen years ago) link

what's marcel dettmann's story? i really dig "quicksand" on ostgut ton, and just picked up an interesting release on his own MDR -- another of those records in the hardwax-aesthetic, rubber-stamped labels, minimal info, etc. (it's probably P+D'd by hardwax, actually) -- that's a little synthier & more detroitish. good stuff, on first listen.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:35 (seventeen years ago) link

what can people tell me about Equip? might be more electro-house bobbins, but i got the re-release of 'XXXO' and it has been on constant rotation on the turntable.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:37 (seventeen years ago) link

also really feeling ripperton's narrow minded EP on connaisseur, one of the best things on that label in a while, to my mind.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Marcel Dettmann + Ben Klock are the Berghain residents, no?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:02 (seventeen years ago) link

really really liked that dettmann on ostgut-ton

I like that Ripperton on Connaisseur, tho I like the Plasmik mix a lot more than the Ripperton tracks. I was starting to think Ripperton had stretched himself too thin lately and got a bit boring...but his new Liebe Detail is really good...

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:14 (seventeen years ago) link

ripperton on L*D? how did i miss that? i'm not sure which mix i prefer on the connaisseur 12", might be the plasmik - will check when i get home.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:39 (seventeen years ago) link

it's just out on promo this week, flipped with a lars behrenroth which was a bit orgasmatronic us house for me on first listen....

minilogue's forthcoming wagon repair release is pretty incredible too...

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:44 (seventeen years ago) link

oh yeah, that new minilogue is fantastic. nice live set up at www.minilogue.com as well, if i didn't mention it here before.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:50 (seventeen years ago) link

i really wasn't into their crosstown rebels release, found it very boring, but that one is amazing...loving all this dubby humid chicagoey style stuff that's around in "minimal" now....

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:58 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost. That's a good live set. Got it knocking about my hardrive somewhere.

Looking at their website, which has a link to their myspace, I'm reminded that I don't have nearly enough of my favourite minimal types added as friends. Then again it would probably take a good afternoon of clicking!

jimn (jimnaseum), Sunday, 7 January 2007 03:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Minilogue, I don't approve of your Mathew Jonson mimicking!

Good Dog (Good Dog), Sunday, 7 January 2007 04:01 (seventeen years ago) link

i think the first dettmann release on his own imprint is fantastic industrial hippie minimal. it was one of my faves of 06. not sure about "quicksand" yet, but mdr 02 looks very very promising.

last connaisseur i really liked was one of the sides of the jochen trappe single. it was kinda like claro intelecto, but more irreverent. agree that the new ripperton is good.

josh. (disco stu), Sunday, 7 January 2007 04:20 (seventeen years ago) link

man is claro one serious dude.

an old show...but a good one!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:05 (seventeen years ago) link

is the new minilogue really that good? scale of 1-10.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:20 (seventeen years ago) link

YES I WILL DOWNLOAD

the table is the table (treesessplode), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:20 (seventeen years ago) link

no seriously it is v good...I haven't really been big into anything of theirs since "ahck" but this is really nice on both sides...definitely a matthew jonson style on one side but I prefer the flip, far less pristine sound than they've been doing...

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 January 2007 05:24 (seventeen years ago) link

the new MDR is basically a T++ record. good, very spaced/Chain Reaction, but on first listen the only difference from the Erosion label 12"s is more technoid rhythms.

a (rslvd), Sunday, 7 January 2007 07:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I just picked up this Antonelli Electr. record on Minuendo (which I guess is a spanish label, distr by Kompakt) which I'm seriously digging (hey we get things later than everybody else here in California)

http://www.discogs.com/release/780486

It's got that Basic Channel 'woooosh' but not quite that washed out. Makes a pretty good bridge between that kind of stuff and your more traditional stuff.

tylero (tylero), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Late 2006 Bobbins but the breakdown in Exercise One - Debaya (Daniel Stefanik Remix) is seriously mighty. A hollowed out scrape over pots n pans boogie - wonderful stuff. Big Mobilee party on 27th Jan at Watergate - and I'm going.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Sunday, 7 January 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

"but on first listen the only difference from the Erosion label 12"s is more technoid rhythms"

dang. i want ultra-spacey/steppy/grainy "love jam" type stuff.

went to hear dan bell play a very masterful set last night/this morning. :))))))

josh. (disco stu), Sunday, 7 January 2007 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah that stefanik mix is brilliant...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 January 2007 01:05 (seventeen years ago) link

hell yes, dan bell was on fire!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 8 January 2007 03:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh shit. I got my records mixed up again. That Mobilee track I was referring to is Sebo K - Horizons (Exercise One's Sleepless In San Juan Mix) not the other one

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 8 January 2007 05:19 (seventeen years ago) link

okay, ignoring my previous plea for no more talk about FZ for one post: the original is definitely better untouched. let's go eastern european jazz.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Monday, 8 January 2007 05:22 (seventeen years ago) link

"That Mobilee track I was referring to is Sebo K - Horizons (Exercise One's Sleepless In San Juan Mix) not the other one"

yes this track is amazing. Those sudden bursts of noise!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 8 January 2007 07:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Jeff Samuel's "I Think They Are Trying To Say Something" sounds just right to these ears. Also, I was just taking stock of Wagon Repair's releases from last year into this year with the new Minilogue and it certainly receives a rating of "JUST WOW!" A near flawless stretch since "Dump Truck" at least. The last thing I heard before that was "7.19 FM David" so maybe the stretch goes further back (and I didn't hear the Hrdvsion release), but what a stretch.

matt2 (matt2), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

And what about this new Pantha Du Prince album (I assume to be released on Dial)? I've only heard "Saturn Strobe" but it is perfectly lush and gorgeous.

matt2 (matt2), Friday, 12 January 2007 15:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Some of you may already have found this but for those who haven't, I have a new website here

Lots of minimal bobbins and stuff...

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

well, yeah, i didn't actually go out and buy the pronsato record.

tho i put in a request for a review copy.

the table is the table, Thursday, 20 December 2007 23:13 (sixteen years ago) link

ah no kidding? bummer, i didn't know that. someone wants to me more like perlon! (heh, just kidding.)

pshrbrn, Thursday, 20 December 2007 23:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Since I imagine not many people are checking the other thread I posted this in, I was wondering if anyone here could possibly identify this just beautiful track, which I've been trying to identify since the summer. I thought it might be Joel Mull, but I've checked a lot of his tracks and haven't found it. Theres a minute long sample you can stream here

P.S. Daniel Bell is an entirely remarkable DJ! (although I'm sure you all know this already) He played for free for 5 hours in a 200 or so person capacity bar here, w/out guestlist or anything of the sort (this might be the most admirable thing any promoter in Toronto has done since I've started going to events)

mehlt, Sunday, 23 December 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

that Chloe albums pretty decent isn't it!

keep going back for more..
