markers, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 19:39 (ten years ago) link

markers, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 19:39 (ten years ago) link

you could ask him to stop

lag∞n, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 22:00 (ten years ago) link

ppl who seem cool but are trying desperately and futilely to be funny (pro edition)

mookieproof, Thursday, 14 November 2013 05:32 (ten years ago) link

Okay, I muted both @midnight and tonight's hashtag, but they're still showing up in my feed. Does tweetbot even work?

polyphonic, Thursday, 14 November 2013 06:20 (ten years ago) link

Yes, but it doesn't mute retrospectively.

girl either visited lots of porn sites or probably paid for one of those follower services on the low and isn't owning up to it

k3vin k., Monday, 25 November 2013 04:18 (ten years ago) link

Every time I log in I'm following 30 new people that I've never heard of. Wtf? I've already changed my password.

I can't keep up, I can't keep up, I can't keep up (calstars), Sunday, 1 December 2013 13:24 (ten years ago) link

changing your password doesn't revoke applications you've granted access to, you'll have to do that as well

stet, Sunday, 1 December 2013 13:36 (ten years ago) link

ohhhhhh my god this change to blocking. why would you do that!

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:32 (ten years ago) link

can someone explain? ^ this is all i'm hearing about it but no one links to any info

diamonddave85, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:34 (ten years ago) link

https://support.twitter.com/articles/117063-blocking-users-on-twitter

Note: If your account is public, blocking a user does not prevent that user from following you, interacting with your Tweets, or receiving your updates in their timeline. If your Tweets are protected, blocking the user will cause them to unfollow you.

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:35 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's ridiculous

diamonddave85, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:38 (ten years ago) link

Oh cool, I can follow Jesse Thorn again (I won't).

Murgatroid, Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:43 (ten years ago) link

Wasn't broke, shouldn't fix.

hatcat marnell (suzy), Thursday, 12 December 2013 22:45 (ten years ago) link

Oh, what the shit? This is fucking appalling.

emil.y, Thursday, 12 December 2013 23:06 (ten years ago) link

why because engineers are dumb

the general thinking is "if it's technically possible, when even try to stop it?"

facepalm

eris bueller (lukas), Thursday, 12 December 2013 23:30 (ten years ago) link

when even try -> why even try

Twitter's current party line is that this is good because now people won't know they've been blocked, so they won't get all mad

so just make Block and Ignore separate options, cmon

eris bueller (lukas), Thursday, 12 December 2013 23:54 (ten years ago) link

ive never blocked anyone

lag∞n, Friday, 13 December 2013 03:01 (ten years ago) link

tho I have no problem imagining situations where itd be essential

lag∞n, Friday, 13 December 2013 03:02 (ten years ago) link

I block people constantly, usually for no good reason

polyphonic, Friday, 13 December 2013 03:06 (ten years ago) link

@twitter: We're reverting the changes to block functionality. https://t.co/H3W3V27rKN

lag∞n, Friday, 13 December 2013 03:47 (ten years ago) link

lol

mookieproof, Friday, 13 December 2013 03:48 (ten years ago) link

I don't block, but I used Tweetbot's mute function all the time. (worth it on it's own)

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 13 December 2013 07:28 (ten years ago) link

Yes!

Jeff, Friday, 13 December 2013 13:06 (ten years ago) link

I think the only accounts I've ever blocked have been spambots, but it honestly never occurred to me that they would not be able to read my tweets as a result. I just wanted to get them off my screen.

jaymc, Friday, 13 December 2013 14:25 (ten years ago) link

it never occurred to you that people might need to block abuse on twitter?

i mean, i've only blocked spambots and don't habitually receive abuse, but...it never occurred to you how commonplace that was?

lex pretend, Friday, 13 December 2013 14:37 (ten years ago) link

I've never been sent anything beyond polite disagreement, but the rapey Twit abuse received by some feminists of my acquaintance is staggering.

hatcat marnell (suzy), Friday, 13 December 2013 14:56 (ten years ago) link

who blocks the most people? Graham Linehan? He's a serial blocker, I think anyone who dares suggest that Count Arthur Strong/The IT Crowd aren't the pinnacle of comedy get blocked ASAP.

the Shearer of simulated snowsex etc. (Dwight Yorke), Friday, 13 December 2013 14:58 (ten years ago) link

I was just thinking of him. We used to be friends, but I think if I met him 'fresh' now I wouldn't like him very much. He's turned into this rich white guy who throws hissies when people have the audacity to contradict him.

hatcat marnell (suzy), Friday, 13 December 2013 15:05 (ten years ago) link

Master of the manual RT as well #scum

the Shearer of simulated snowsex etc. (Dwight Yorke), Friday, 13 December 2013 15:10 (ten years ago) link

eh, he doesn't want to directly engage with people who diss his work. Sounds fair enough to me.

xp

pandemic, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:10 (ten years ago) link

it's less about people dissing his work and more an unwillingness to be contradicted on any matter at all - i've never interacted with him or desired to but he comes across as insufferably pompous

lex pretend, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

okay, sorry I misunderstood.

pandemic, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:13 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, does not respond well to being contradicted or corrected. If enough people told him to check his privilege at the same time, he might spontaneously combust in righteous liberal indignation!

hatcat marnell (suzy), Friday, 13 December 2013 15:21 (ten years ago) link

wow everyone is super pumped for this surprise beyonce huh
