It really points out, and I may have complained about this already, but a huge problem with being a BSRW cartoonist right now is that everybody loves Obama, specifically because he threw out the batshit right-wing government. Hence all the effort to claim different definitions of what "change" meant...certainly there were ideas about bipartisanship etc but the basic promise was "No more Bush" - that's why the most effective negative against McCain was the "voted with Bush 95% of the time" stuff. The only way to respond to this from BSRW territory is to insist, and I guess this has been going on since the get-go, that Obama is/was just a wide-eyed, fairly generic idealist.

So, a mass-produced auto manufactured domestically, cheap enough for its own assemblers to purchase? You gotta hand it to these guys mocking a President openly advocating the production and consumption of american cars in the DETROIT NEWS.

It's like the cartoon version of Bobby Jindal's response; written in advance, either clearly not intended to reflect anything that was actually said, or these guys just believed so much in their strawman libruls that they could go ahead and not actually watch the thing.

i've always marvelled at right-wingers' sudden concern for the government balance sheet when a democratic congress and/or president come to power (and their continued insistence on cutting government revenues)
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link
it's like suddenly the state of the govt's current account becomes "our" money, under attack from feckless drunkards (see upthread)
when republican presidents/congresses are in power, however, the govt's current account is just brushed under the rug, despite historical data that show republican presidents increase deficits consistently and democratic presidents do the opposite
and anyway, what does asay think we have right NOW? surpluses???

I think part of what pisses me off about this guys is that they're paid to draw one to four panels a day, and they use fucking photoshop to copy/paste.
For all of Trudeau's(or even Breathed's) repetition of panels of either one or two characters in dialogue or an exterior shot of the White House, he actually drew each panel.

Also, if you completely believe that trickle-down economics works, that dropping tax rates to the very, very rich will result in a massive increase in domestic production and consumption despite the evidence of, y'know, the last 30 years, then you will portray a budget that drops the tax rates for 95% of the country as a shark being tossed to a drowning man.
