She is the lead singer of Lamb, who have been awesome since 1997

This is out therre. The mix of "Days" is completely different or am I wrong?

old homophobic boom bap rap traditionalist (The Reverend), Saturday, 9 November 2013 04:44 (ten years ago) link

not on my promo copy? i did think romy's vox sounded slightly different but not notably so

lex pretend, Saturday, 9 November 2013 09:28 (ten years ago) link

Naw, it's the beat that sounded different.

old homophobic boom bap rap traditionalist (The Reverend), Saturday, 9 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

it's way different yeah

Number None, Sunday, 10 November 2013 14:39 (ten years ago) link

I wouldn't say WAY different but I feel like the bass was tweaked some

also this whole thing RULES OMFG

smoking, drinking, cracking and showing the MIDDLE FINGER (DJP), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link

yeah far as i can tell this record is awesome

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link

yeah if on the one hand we've heard half these songs already, on the other the sequencing and album context has really opened up some of the ones that didn't stand out as standalone singles, like "call her" and "animals"

lex pretend, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link

oh i said that a few days ago, haha!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link

I will slightly disagree with you there because I thought "Call Her" was exceptional from the get-go.

smoking, drinking, cracking and showing the MIDDLE FINGER (DJP), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:50 (ten years ago) link

i did like it, but i didn't have that compulsive must-hear-this-50-times-in-a-row urge that i got with "days" and "you" - it is an excellent track though

lex pretend, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:52 (ten years ago) link

btw does anyone have any idea as to who jessica king is?

creep is getting that ITUNES money

乒乓, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:58 (ten years ago) link

i'm sort of impressed given that i assume there were issues getting the album out (no longer with original uk pr company, delays, little real promo)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 16:02 (ten years ago) link

(I do agree that "Animals" makes more sense on the album than as a standalone)

smoking, drinking, cracking and showing the MIDDLE FINGER (DJP), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 16:02 (ten years ago) link

Is it even coming out on physical media? Their site/tumblr/etc haven't been updated in months...

CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 18:07 (ten years ago) link

Amazon has it as MP3 only so my assumption is that there's no physical copy.

smoking, drinking, cracking and showing the MIDDLE FINGER (DJP), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 18:10 (ten years ago) link

booo.

been looking forward to this album.

mark e, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 18:43 (ten years ago) link

A comment on their Facebook says "vinyl in the works," but that's about it

CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Wednesday, 13 November 2013 21:09 (ten years ago) link

the album has been posted in the xbox music catalogue.
so, clearly someone is working on getting this out and available.
apparently i have clicked a button in the xbox music application that means i now have this available in the cloud.
no idea if that means i am limited to the number of plays ..
however, f*ck all that boring crap, this album is hitting many of my sweet spots.

mark e, Thursday, 14 November 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

so, clearly someone is working on getting this out and available.

not really, that happens pretty much 'automatically' if you're going through a digital distributor, who pushes it out to a million digital music outlets (from iTunes to weird Russian streaming sites).

i wasn't familiar with Xbox Music but i just checked and my records are there, so.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 14 November 2013 20:43 (ten years ago) link

I just finally bought the damn thing on iTunes. It's a really well-sequenced record, isn't it? To me it feels like it gains tremendously from being laid out as a full-length rather than a set of one-off singles

CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Thursday, 14 November 2013 21:26 (ten years ago) link

I think this improves as it goes along but really takes off with 'Days'. They're generally dependent on the quality of the songwriter/vocalist they're working with. The whole thing *sounds* amazing but they work so much better with vocalists who provide a bit of contrast to the gothiness - Nina Sky, Romy, whoever Dark Sister are, even Sia. The Lou Rhodes track feels thuddingly predictable by comparison.

Matt DC, Friday, 15 November 2013 09:42 (ten years ago) link

'Vertigo' is my cut from this.

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 16 December 2013 15:30 (ten years ago) link

This album is so, so, so, so, so good.

I can't say AOTY because I'm torn between this and Maya Jane Coles and Austra, but my goodness, this is so, soooo good.

(And it pains me not to AOTY an album that Alley Deheza is on, any year that Alley Deheza features on a record, but there it is.)

ok .. having bypassed wi-fi in the west wing that never allowed proper streaming, i have now been able to stream this album properly.

i want this on a silver disc.

is it going to get a proper physical release ?

I would kill for a CREEP/We Love tour

its subtle brume (DJP), Thursday, 11 February 2016 19:22 (eight years ago) link

so underrated in general!

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 11 February 2016 19:22 (eight years ago) link

Idle curiosity: lex, DJP, nathey, and myself account for 4 of the 6 votes Echoes received in the 2013 ILX poll. Only 7 albums in the top 77 were voted for with higher "enthusiasm".

Ah...We Love. Now I have to track down the Timeless EP (2011) and "End of the Night" single (2012)

Lurkers of the world, unite! (Sanpaku), Thursday, 11 February 2016 21:03 (eight years ago) link

never got to hear this album properly.
i have never seen a cd copy of this ever.
however, it appears that they are available via the usual places (albeit very expensive : £30 on amazon !), so i guess it was released.
i guess there was not a lot of push behind it, or, the label pulled it from having a full release ?

mark e, Thursday, 11 February 2016 22:26 (eight years ago) link

Half was released as singles over 4 years, so the album itself was anticlimactic. An issue with a lot of debut albums this decade.

Lurkers of the world, unite! (Sanpaku), Thursday, 11 February 2016 23:10 (eight years ago) link

cd arrived yesterday (not £30 via amazon !)
it is, as has been said, bloody fantastic.
would love to know how this album got so lost.
did the girls just call it quits and pull back from the needs of the promotional chaos, or was it that the label just lost interest ??
there has to be a story for such a wonderful album that features so many big names on it to disappear like this.

mark e, Thursday, 18 February 2016 21:58 (eight years ago) link

three months pass...

today : 8 hour driving session + crap football result + vodka.

outcome : this album is perfect.

mark e, Saturday, 11 June 2016 22:59 (seven years ago) link

four years pass...

CREEP - Animals (Alpines remix) just came on via a random selection.
still sounds massive, and totally brilliant.
