Every day, somewhere in the vast expanses of all the ILxes, the plaintive cry of "Tracer Hand to thread!" can be heard, more in hope than expectation. The rejoicing when he appears, it is something to behold.

Gimme 50 or 100 search results per page instead of ten. I'd rather scroll than click (rejected Reynolds Girls lyric).

In long threads, enable loading of say 50 messages at a time instead of having to load them all.

go back to how it was in the old code where posts were coded so that their permalinks were numbered serially, not randomly

I know I post this like monthly, but it's super easy to do this manually. Click "permalink" on a post, and then you can just reduce the number in the URL where it says "bookmarkedmessageid="

It takes a little trial and error to get to the exact right spot, but reducing it by a thousand or so is usually good enough.

many websites rate the security of one's password as it's typed. There's a little meter that changes from red to yellow and then finally to green as more characters are added. I'd like a real time meter of otm next to the submit button.

mario chalmers of ilx (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

also, precog mods that ban ilxors before the offending post(s)

mario chalmers of ilx (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:48 (ten years ago) link

this is reminding me of a project I started last year but didn't finish -- there's a toolkit for identifying people based on their grammar and syntax. was planning on making a web browser extension that'd learn who users are, and then be able to guess who sock puppets might be. anyone else, feel free to take it up.

mh, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

if there is going to be an otm meter, then surely there needs to be a set of otm bar charts that track individual user's otm ratings so that we can have quarterly stack ranks

that would let us do away with FP because at the end of the quarter you could just auto-ban anyone who isn't hitting the otm target they agreed to in their yearly development plan

xp should also be able to translate a post into another poster's style or perhaps a weighted sum of several posters' styles

ILX should say "Your bookmarked thread has new answers" when I first open the page if in fact one of my bookmarked threads has new answers

maybe I could choose from some celebrity voices, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger's or Ned Raggett's, so it feels like I know a celebrity

ty for the support, mac dragh. But if I could just upgrade your account to ILX GOLD, I wouldn't have to say it tbh

I don't know if this is feasible, but some way of tagging threads? Non-obtrusively. You only see the tags if you want to. You can browse by tag.

cardamon, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:26 (ten years ago) link

Didn't there used to be drop-down menu for categorizing threads? Not by board, but by "Politics & Govt", etc.

Noize board had their own, like FFZZZZZZZZZZ NO CAN DO or whatever.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 23:33 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, there were categories in the old pre-Keith code, but I don't know how useful they were. But being able to give a searchable tag to threads that have comedy/unsearchable names would be nice.

Out of curiosity, how often does the tracking for read threads get reset? More in the spirit of this thread, can we give an option for users to mark an entire thread unread?
