I don't know if it exists, but there should certainly be one called "Try This On For Size"

Clarke B., Sunday, 29 September 2013 19:42 (ten years ago) link

Or how about "Salad Daze" with an illustration of the band from behind sitting crosslegged staring up at like a giant glowing radish or some shit

Clarke B., Sunday, 29 September 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

"Second Place is the First Loser"

Clarke B., Sunday, 29 September 2013 19:48 (ten years ago) link

The Frames should have done a record called "Shot Down in Frames"

Clarke B., Sunday, 29 September 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

"New Clear Waste"

Clarke B., Sunday, 29 September 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

"If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be an Airport"

Killing Joke weirdly fits this thread with ...What's THIS For?

lucille baller (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 29 September 2013 22:20 (ten years ago) link

Not an album, but the posthumous Faces box set Five Guys Walk Into A Bar..

lucille baller (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 29 September 2013 22:24 (ten years ago) link

Ha, love that title (and the set).

Great work, everyone.

Jethro Tull - Stand Up (featuring a cardboard, stand-up cutout of the band...standing up)

Doctor Casino, Monday, 30 September 2013 01:22 (ten years ago) link

Yeah the Faces are so perfect for these types of titles, so loveable

lucille baller (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 30 September 2013 12:19 (ten years ago) link

iirc, "Throwback" features guitarist Alan Throw.

"New Clear Waste"

http://cranialspasm.com/recordclub/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/vapors.jpg

... belongs on a horrible album titles by new wave bands thread though

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Monday, 30 September 2013 15:11 (ten years ago) link

and AR Kane's third album was called New Clear Child

i'll be your mraz (NickB), Monday, 30 September 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

it was rubbish btw, just in case the title doesn't serve as warning enough

I always thought this had a "Would you fucks leave us alone now please?" kinda vibe to it.

he had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up (NotEnough), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 19:46 (ten years ago) link

If they'd stayed together into the 70s proper, Let It Be...Naked would have been a great title for a beigey album cover where the four Beatles are hanging around at a stuffy, fancy-dress party, all nude, but with unlikely objects blocking the naughty bits from view.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 21:37 (ten years ago) link

gawd i forgot about let it be...naked....what a clown

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 22:44 (ten years ago) link

oh shit I guess it's numerically and alphabetically represented but Van Halen's OU812 is one of these

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 22:47 (ten years ago) link

Oh...You Eight One, Two?!

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 23:56 (ten years ago) link

Ha, that's fucking awful. I saw one last week and meant to post it, too:

Clarke B., Wednesday, 23 October 2013 03:55 (ten years ago) link

Oh good god, I only just got what I think the "Which One's Willie?" cover is supposed to mean.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 04:43 (ten years ago) link

I don't get it... "which one's will he?" (will he what?)

I want to know, but I also know the answer is going to be tedious in a way only terrible 70s album titles are.

Fiddler on a hot tin roof (ed.b), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 04:59 (ten years ago) link

The boy is holding up the photo to his mother asking which is his father. she slept with all of them. Also a double entendre - which one is Willie vs whose 'Willie' was it.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 05:12 (ten years ago) link

Actually sort of clever, in the stupidest way something can be clever.

I saw this and thought it was maybe a modern day version of this, but I think it's slightly too subtle? The title really needs to written in a font at least the same size as the artists name, and the cover should be a close up of the ace of clubs, with a hand pointing at the club.

this is how a punch sounds, like ditch, like quitch (soref), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 06:52 (ten years ago) link

needs to be in the literal covers thread.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 06:54 (ten years ago) link

I think join the club totally works

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 12:48 (ten years ago) link

The Zevon title is good

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 13:36 (ten years ago) link

Has their ever been a joint effort between two artists named Juan called "It Takes Juan to Know Juan?"

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 13:39 (ten years ago) link

I always groan/crack up when I see that one in the dollar bin, it's SO sloppy and bad-looking, and just screams ''...but you wouldn't have enjoyed it much!''

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 26 October 2013 14:50 (ten years ago) link

Um... those Juicy Lucy albums are a little disturbing

Really, isn't Sheik Yerbouti an appropriate-as-hell album title ??? This was in the era of Shah of Iran as well... i remember a neighbor coming home from months of construction work in the Middle East with a gift tin of Shah Pistachios. Relevant, i propose.

bodacious ignoramus, Sunday, 23 February 2014 03:15 (ten years ago) link

Thinking about this thread and the Roxy one re. album covers is fun. The latter seem like the greatest visionaries ever because jesus, the gems in here.

Master of Treacle, Sunday, 23 February 2014 04:11 (ten years ago) link

I didn't see this one mentioned, it's v stupid and deserves mentioning

"gilbert o'sullivan" also very much in the spirit of these titles tbf

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 23 February 2014 04:17 (ten years ago) link

To wit, his 2004 compilation: The Berry Vest of Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 23 February 2014 04:28 (ten years ago) link

Todd Terje keeping the spirit alive.
