heard 'take back the night' in a bud light platinum commercial - good classy product to attach your brand to, jt

you realize he's the "creative director" of bud light platinum right?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 September 2013 02:54 (ten years ago) link

yeah i figured that out when i googled bud light platinum and his name was like 5th in the results.

it's truffle season... time for tuxedos for no reason [and bottles of Bud Light Platinum™, a bolder light beer that's triple filtered for that smooth top-shelf taste]

乒乓, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 02:59 (ten years ago) link

but yes i thought everybody knew that justin timberlake was the creative director for bud light platinum. ask any man on the street, he'll look at you in the eye as if you're crazy before answering "why, of course it's justin timberlake"

乒乓, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 03:00 (ten years ago) link

also just now realizing the... irony? uh, not sure what the appropriate word here is - of not only repurposing the phrase 'take back the night' for his first single but then going ahead and making the creative decision of using that song to sell beer to frathouse bros

乒乓, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 03:19 (ten years ago) link

part 2 is so so bad.

I make $94k Based God (rennavate), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 05:14 (ten years ago) link

i really like the first song

The Yoko bit in "Murder" is the most mortifying of Jay's career.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 16:24 (ten years ago) link

i really like the first song

― J0rdan S., Tuesday

Me too. It's the return of that worried falsetto I liked on the FS/LS title track. Also, he's not trying so hard lyrically.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 September 2013 16:27 (ten years ago) link

haha i liked that part

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 September 2013 16:36 (ten years ago) link

I dont know if Justin T is worthy of vocal praise

RRRRR, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 23:10 (ten years ago) link

hoo boy i had assumed the negative reactions were embarrassed overcompensating but this really is so so bad

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 09:46 (ten years ago) link

the last song is ELEVEN MINUTES LONG?????

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 09:47 (ten years ago) link

his vocals are so pinched and lazy on this album

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 09:51 (ten years ago) link

More pinched than usual? I didn't realise that was possible.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 10:04 (ten years ago) link

genuinely yes

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 10:14 (ten years ago) link

she's got that true butt

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 13:46 (ten years ago) link

holy crap he actually rings a bell at the end of tko

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 13:57 (ten years ago) link

well this was a waste of 27 seconds

r|t|c, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:06 (ten years ago) link

was the entire album recorded at the same tempo?

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:21 (ten years ago) link

Coked- up?

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:24 (ten years ago) link

maybe quaaludes

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:26 (ten years ago) link

I am afraid to listen to this now, the reactions have been so entertaining that the reality can't help but be a letdown

You are kind, I am jerkface (DJP), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:41 (ten years ago) link

Same here. I've seen the antelope torn apart by lions, I don't need to pick over the carcass.

Deafening silence (DL), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:45 (ten years ago) link

this is truly awful, it has this kind of sharpness that accompanies receiving information without the information to decode it, like watching 3d films without glasses, hearing music through a speaker placed in your mouth, &c

schlump, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:47 (ten years ago) link

looking forward to it

Sounds fun tbh

buddha box

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

i suggest you guys enjoy instead the creative decisions that JT is making in service of bud light platinum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZN8QMvuPas

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

this is... better-ish on second listen. j0rd is right, the first track is very nice. "true blood" is an unholy mess and might live up to djp's expectations

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:06 (ten years ago) link

wow @ being moved to willingly give this a second listen (you have to do it for work right?)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:09 (ten years ago) link

lol i wish

mostly baffled and trying to figure out why anyone would think these songs were worth releasing

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

there's one song – one! – less than five minutes long.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

and it has drake on it

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:14 (ten years ago) link

The busted cherry on top of a gold-leaf cake, that.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:15 (ten years ago) link

omg i really hope jt chose the song for this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUwkyj-RgRw

乒乓, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:19 (ten years ago) link

jt on that 4 non blondes instrumentation for "drink you away"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:23 (ten years ago) link

"amnesia" is very good and it takes an undue amount of effort to get there

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:45 (ten years ago) link

I forget about "Amnesia" while it's on.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:45 (ten years ago) link

well that's true of most of the songs here

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:46 (ten years ago) link

what does "not a bad thing" remind me of? garbielle's "dreams"? "you gotta be"?

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:51 (ten years ago) link

I see nothing suspect here.

Hey I'm real!!!!!
I may post links at this site but I do enjoy the flow of conversation here.
I agree with Greer!

i feel like you can hear decent bits of good songwriting in most of these songs, but conceptually it's all so embarrassing

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

"not a bad thing" is prob the best one, reminds me of the ends of janet's 90s albums

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

everyone overplayed their hand the first time around... all the handwringing about the length of the first 20/20 should've been saved for the one where the final 3 songs take 25 minutes

J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 20:10 (ten years ago) link

(as opposed to the one where the final three songs take 22 minutes)
