y'know i'm marking down anything with the Doors or the Pistols on it, it's not even a musical thing, i just demand ruthless territoriality on my Metal jackets

― EZ Snappin, Saturday, 14 September 2013 16:02 (ten years ago) link
more likely too young! Its still mostly 35+ who I see wearing them. Of course in big cities/gigs it may be quite different.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 14 September 2013 16:03 (ten years ago) link
Which is why I asked if anybody ever saw anyone wearing them now. (it's supposedly been making a comeback the past decade)

Yeah the dudes wearing their battle jackets to the bar were late 40s at least.
― carl agatha, Saturday, 14 September 2013 16:12 (ten years ago) link
well, when I was in High School, I had a denim jacket that I had my mom sew back patches on — iirc they were Primus, Red Hot Chili Peps, Korn, Public Enemy and a few more.
Kind of thinking it would be kind of cool to make a new jacket covered in all pre-1992 hip-hop patches

there definitely is younger ones around no doubt but not seen enough personally to know if it really is a thing now or just an oddity (or wearing dads/big brothers)

I dont think anyone who wears battle jackets worries about being cool. It's not very metal.

i expect kids to be stupid, it's always disheartening when you see adults doing it and presumably getting paid for it

I wouldn't have said Foo Fighters (though they do suck); what caught my eye was the Mago de Oz patch. They're a weirdo folk-metal band from who've been around for about 25 years.

btw from that rnb jacket guys tumblr
t's an exploration of the music industry's relationship with fashion and branding, I intend to raise questions about the power of a brand, what a musician or a band means beyond the context of just their music, what they represent culturally or emotionally to people. When one becomes aware of this power, and re-arranges and recontextualises these symbols, it can open up new meanings and questions.Music also has the ability to mark personal growth or change, life stages, tastes, subcultures etc. I grew up during the late nineties and early noughites when it was pretty common to just be labeled one thing, punk, goth, homie, etc. depending one what you listened to. Why limit yourself to being so one dimensional?I also have a vested interest in exposing the hypocrisy of punk, it seems the movement (if you could call it that) was so much about 'Fuck everything, do what you want EXCEPT listen to hip hop EXCEPT go to university EXCEPT get a nine to five job EXCEPT eat meat.' I began to see it as a mini fascist regime, and the negative reactions from music fans on both sides about this project just go to prove this. That was exactly my intention."
