So who on this thread is going to get a cease & desist e-mail first: the guy who posted a download link to the whole Kanye album, or the people clowning on Fennessey?

I'm liking the album so far. Song w/ T-Pain is way better than the first 2 singles, right now that and "The Glory" are my favorite tracks.

And a lot of people caught offense to that: "What do you mean you are Hip-Hop?" Obviously, that was not my point of view - that I alone, am Hip-Hop and no one isn't. The point was that while I appreciate and respect the culture, it doesn’t mean I falsely (and lamely) try to emulate it. It has its place. That place just is not in my house or on my body.

omigod best use of a Steely Dan sample ("Kid Charlemagne"!) ever, trumping even De La's.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

i like this album a lot. love what sounds like soft-rock/70s MOR samples.

titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Better than Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz?

The Reverend, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

anything as good as drive slow or get em high

and what, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

nah

mh, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Better than Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz?

That's the second time I've been asked.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I never liked "Get Em High" so it's hard for me to use that as a point of comparison in a good way.

I love the way the "Kid Charlemagne" sample is chopped, but I wish he didn't slather half of it in those ugly synths, it'd sound so much better without them.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

My favorite Steely Dan rap sample is still Freeway and Joe Budden over a "Royal Scam" loop on the Ice City album.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:18 (sixteen years ago) link

get em high is a shitty beat but lolz lyrically

titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

well i like certain songs here and there (i like the hot thing single out now) but he has maybe the worst voice in hip hop ever.

titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:31 (sixteen years ago) link

dont mock me because i know all the words to reflection eternal. just call me cultured.

and what, Friday, 31 August 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

i liked kweli before he started trying to show he could do battle raps, sex-raps, gun-raps, etc etc. maybe thats me 'limiting' him but still.

2000 seasons was great though, yeah.

It's weird to think that as short as three years ago, Com could sound pissed without simultaneously sounding self-righteous, but whatever.

anyone know what the sample on "Big Brother" is? the riff reminds me of Prince's "It's Gonna Be Lonely" but I know that's not it.

Hip hop fashion is a distinctive style of dress originating with the African-American youth living in New York City and Los Angeles. Each city contributed various elements to its overall style seen worldwide today. Hip hop fashion complements the expressions and attitudes of hip hop culture in general. Hip hop fashion has changed significantly during its history, and today it is a prominent part of popular fashion as a whole across the world and for all ethnicities. The dashikis, baggy pants, giant clocks that hang around your neck, throwback jerseys — they’re all vibrant and different and fun.
