Apparently Dre's English accent is pretty shit - he tried it in that interview in the last issue of Muzik.

Is everyone being sarcastic or do most of y'all really hate Hughes bros. movies? As far associal commentaryism goes I would say 'meh', but as far as tales-designed-for-emotional-manipulation-of-the-audience, they're top fucking notch.

The girl thing in it was pretty bad, but otherwise, a real pretty hoot. I like the idea of them doing, um, making a Hendrix biopic.
Will Trower dub the live show sequences?
― Ian Grey (Ian_G), Thursday, 29 January 2004 01:22 (twenty years ago) link
if they're gonna do a black acid rock biopic the better choice (and the better story) would be Sly.
They can't do that one until he turns up dead.

No Hendrix music in Hendrix biopic

Janie Hendrix is taking a lot of shit in the comments there, but am I right in thinking that his estate was a shambles before she took over? Also, it looks like the filmmakers never had any intention (or at least not enough intention to bother asking) of using any original Hendrix-written material.

ya right

Actually, I'd be in favor of more music biopics framing themselves as "how they got there" pieces rather than dramatizations of the super famous years. Hendrix did a lot of session work and scraping by before Are You Experienced? that I'm not at all familiar with.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link
most good biopics are about a very limited period in the subject's life i find. cradle to grave ones always suck

Hendrix's most iconic visual performances were of non-originals by Chip Taylor and Francis Scott Key anyways

and my favourite Hendrix track was written by Bob Dylan

this is very true, although at this point i feel pretty scorched earth about biopics in general and especially music biopics and ESPECIALLY ones that are an ego trip star vehicle for a musician-turned-actor. so basically still feel the same way i did upthread 8 years ago, fuck this shit, i hope it's a catastrophe, fuck andre, hendrix 4ever etc.
― some dude, Thursday, 5 July 2012 01:09 (eleven years ago) link
yes agree on all that. they're not always good when they do that. they're usually, as a rule, bad!
― funny-skrillex-bee_132455836669.gif (s1ocki), Thursday, 5 July 2012 01:12 (eleven years ago) link
i think the last one i didn't venomously hate was the Andy Serkis-as-Ian Dury one, which i think got a lot of help from me not having too much familiarity with the subject to get hung up on accuracy/resemblance/etc.
― some dude, Thursday, 5 July 2012 01:14 (eleven years ago) link
not really a biopic if its not comprehensive, more of a memopic

that's true, but i think a bigger issue with this for me is when you make a movie about a TV age celebrity/public figure, the viewer knows exactly what the real person looks/sounds/acts like and it becomes such a preoccupation or requirement. i mean i don't think The Doors is a very good movie but i'm pretty impressed with it just on the level of how uncanny Val Kilmer is as Morrison.
