It's not depressing, Nick! It's awesome!

To quote Jad Fair, "bucked nakeded." I spin like Linda Blair in my sleep, and whenever I have to wear clothes to bed, I always wake up in the middle of the night being strangled by them.

A puddle of shame.

Oh, by the way:

"Who are you, Buster Gonad?
-- Ned Raggett (ne...), September 8th, 2005."

That's the quote of the day.

I sleep naked, alone or in pairs. I spend as much time naked as possible. I work naked, when I'm at home.

I have some linen pants I sleep in sometimes & they are thin & soft & my favorite pair of sleepy pants!

(xp) Do your chairs smell?

President Busch (dr g), Thursday, 8 September 2005 20:34 (eighteen years ago) link

When I was a child a man called on the phone and said he was doing an important scientific survey and asked me exactly this question, along with a series of follow-ups. The answer now is either nothing, or just boxerbrief/jockeys, or maybe those and a t-shirt, if it's really cold. And then sometimes I get mixed up and go to bed in a t-shirt and nothing else, Donald Duck style.

Is no one else somewhat mystified by Anna's sleeping in a "vest?" I'm hoping this is English for "tank top," or something similar. Although there is something hilariously Blossom-like about imagining Anna sleeping in boxers and a silk brocade buttoned-up vest.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 8 September 2005 20:42 (eighteen years ago) link

haha! i thought that too, but not as humorously!

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 8 September 2005 20:43 (eighteen years ago) link

I dunno, she's awfully fashionable ...

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 8 September 2005 20:47 (eighteen years ago) link

vest in the uk is like a sleeveless t-shirt, which I think probably is what you call a tank top.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 8 September 2005 20:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Mais oui. I wonder if there's any linguistic distinction between the tank (no shoulders, slim straps) and the sleeveless tee (metrosexual hipsterism fad).

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 8 September 2005 21:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I sleep in a gas chamber.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 8 September 2005 21:26 (eighteen years ago) link

UK vest has very slim shoulder straps, and the fabric is usually a little thinner than a t-shirt. It is mostly worn by old people as an undershirt, but Anna is not unique in being a woman wearing one at night.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 8 September 2005 21:26 (eighteen years ago) link

And nude.

My nightwear sartorial choices:

1) apple-core print pyjama bottoms and tank top
2) a slip dress-style nightgown
3) pearl necklace and nothing else
4) oversized beverly hills 90210 t-shirt

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 8 September 2005 21:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Usually boxers. Probably 2 nights a week I'll fall asleep wearing whatever I was during that day. The upside to that being, if there's a fire, at least I'll look okay with a pair of nice jeans or business slacks on, waiting for the authorities to arrive.

I could never sleep naked. Too much fear that I'd have to leave the house and be running around without clothes.

EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL, DO YOU SEE?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 8 September 2005 21:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I usually sleep in an American Flag speedo, with a crimson velvet cape and a pair of oversized dreamcatcher earrings. Either that, or a gopher pelt cummerbund and a burlap cock sheath.

Who Are You, Buster Gonad? (Bent Over at the Arclight), Thursday, 8 September 2005 23:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Hm, sometimes nothing, usually old Tshirts. Do usually take it up a notch if I'm not sleeping alone, but on my own it's the 10-yr old Tshirt for sure. But I HATE long nightgowns, I hate anything that bunches up when you slide under the covers, this is NOT the American frontier and my nightclothes do not have to be as voluminous as 4 petticoats (sorry, this is a pet peeve as my mother favors those ridiculous nightgowns with high ruffled collars and she made us wear them all through childhood).

Laurel, Friday, 9 September 2005 00:21 (eighteen years ago) link

I usually sleep in a tshir and undies tho lately Ive taken to sleeping in whatever top I had on when i get home - night shift is exhausting and I cant be bothered changing, I just collapse. I also have some nice flannel jammie pants for winter. Cant do nekkid - I have weird dreams about being caught nekkie in public if I do!

a heavy black comforter

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 9 September 2005 01:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Flannel pajamas in winter, sometimes with a tank top, t-shirt or thermal long sleeve top underneath.

Summer it's been hello kity pajama bottoms or cotton knit ones and a tank top or short sleeve shirt.

A few times when it was really cold, I slept in underwear, tights, knee high socks, thermal top, flannel pajamas, and a fleece top.

i lost my favorite pair of blue umbro shorts that i used to sleep in, so i've since started wearing this old pair of (darker) blue mesh shorts. used to sleep in nothing, not so much now that i share bedrooms with people.

joseph (joseph), Friday, 9 September 2005 01:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Rosemary, I've been there -- my parents' house is a hundred years old and drafty, and situated on a lake. More than one winter I kept a propane heater burning in my bedroom, or a heating pad plugged in at my feet, or wore my ski jacket to read in bed. Or got dressed for bed in turtleneck + sweatshirt + tights + sweatpants + wool socks! Of course now I can't sleep in a warm room.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 9 September 2005 05:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I have slept naked almost every night for the last 14 years or so, since I was about 12. I feel very uncomfortable sleeping with any clothes on, boxers or PJs or anything. The only times I'll wear anything is if I'm in an unusual bed (or on an unusual floor) or if I'm ill.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 September 2005 07:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Leggings and some kind of (usually oversize) t-shirt most often. If it's very hot, I might replace the leggings with a paisley cotton skirt which has become too ratty/transparent to wear out of the house. If it's very cold, I might add a sweatshirt or more usually my sleeping cap.

I dislike sleeping naked, regardless of whether there is anyone with me or not. I cannot sleep at all if I am wearing socks.

(This of course disregards the number of times I have passed out or fallen asleep fully clothed.)

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Friday, 9 September 2005 07:49 (eighteen years ago) link

if it gets too cold, t-shirt & boxers. rest of the time, birthday suit.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 9 September 2005 08:04 (eighteen years ago) link

If I'm With Somebody, nuffink. If I'm not and it's summer, a cute vest and big pants set. If I'm not and it's winter, proper men's pyjamas.

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 9 September 2005 08:12 (eighteen years ago) link

When it's warm - just boxers. When it isn't - boxers, t-shirt and (the shame) socks. I'm 6' 3", my feet get cold!

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Friday, 9 September 2005 08:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I used to sleep in t-shirt and knickers until I took up with Accentmister. Now I sleep in the altogether, as does he. Unless it's really cold or I'm sulking, in which case I'll put a t-shirt on.

I was hoping Andrew wore a suit in bed.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 9 September 2005 09:49 (eighteen years ago) link

t-shirt and the underwear I wore that day.

sometimes if it's summer, or if it's a new t-shirt and I think I might wear it again the next day, I put on a generic white t-shirt for sleeping.

I never sleep naked.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 9 September 2005 11:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I should point out, in case anyone ever invites me over to stay, that I always wear pyjamas (or pidgers, as we used to call them when I was a kid) in other people's houses.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 9 September 2005 11:56 (eighteen years ago) link

not longer naked as my kids like to get me out of bed in the middle of the night on a regular basis. last night first ophelia (she has PINWORMS ARGHHH freaked me out thanks raimi) and then it was elisabeth who kept me awake for more than half an hour. about 5 hrs of sleep is actually not that exceptional

A popular song to sing when its time to put on pajamas along with your significant other, watch a movie and drift off to sleep.

brontosaur, Thursday, 5 November 2009 18:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Nothing - but I would probably use boxers if I was the family sort.

Half the time I don't even unmake the bed. I've got this microfleece blanket that follows me from reading chair to bed, and is washed with the bi-weekly laundry.

Deliquescing (Derelict), Thursday, 5 November 2009 21:28 (fourteen years ago) link

boxers when staying over at the family home, otherwise usually nuttin'. Except the last couple of nights I've woken up cold and put a t-shirt on, which when still bottomless feels kinda sleazy for some reason.
