honestly shocked bill didn't return during the playoffs

ade killed him iirc . . . one way or another

mookieproof, Friday, 12 July 2013 00:00 (ten years ago) link

the nhl actually outdraws the nba, but you'd certainly never know it from espn

mookieproof, Friday, 12 July 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

'the metropolitan division'

mookieproof, Friday, 19 July 2013 19:49 (ten years ago) link

bettman will pay for his sins

hahaha poor Bill - I reminded him a few months ago that the Devils' first cup followed 48-Game Season I

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Monday, 22 July 2013 00:10 (ten years ago) link

Jagr to Devils apparently

Federov should be a HOF, imo.

Also in the 11 days I've been in Iceland, so far I have been offered 6 pints just for being a fellow hockey fan. The sport is really growing there, according to the local kids.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 2 August 2013 22:13 (ten years ago) link

We will all look so stupid when Jagr raises the cup with the Panthers in 2017.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 2 August 2013 22:16 (ten years ago) link

nah, islanders

mookieproof, Friday, 2 August 2013 22:17 (ten years ago) link

Seems that the Yotes might finaly be safe perhaps maybe.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 00:22 (ten years ago) link

that's nice i guess? i still feel it would make more sense were they in quebec or hamilton or scarborough or seattle (or fucking lethbridge or kamloops maybe)

god knows i love the red wings (apart from the 2008-2009 playoffs i mean) but it is disturbing to hear that subsidies towards a new arena are somehow going forward despite detroit's bankruptcy

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 01:21 (ten years ago) link

5 years is a long time also who gives a fuck about the coyotes get off this thred

jimmy mod have you considered trying out for sochi

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 01:28 (ten years ago) link

n although i had wondered abt trying out for the chinese team before I think I am too far removed generationally etc also I would wait until they have it in mongolia/tibet/outlying chinese territories so that I would be guaranteed to make it to the medal round

1.34 Billion people and they can't make a functional NBA center surely they need a goalie ffs

I don't mind government subsidies for stadium, but I do mind it not being public property afterwards. Owners holding citizens hostages like in Edmonton or Miami (in baseball) is seriously wrong. But then municipal politics is the gangrene of North America.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 01:33 (ten years ago) link

Owners holding citizens hostages like in Edmonton or Miami (in baseball) is seriously wrong.

citizens/municipalities need to stop behaving like hostages! where were the oilers or marlins going to go?

mike ilitch is worth $2.7 billion. he presumably either makes a profit or derives some substantial pleasure from owning the wings. i'm guessing neither of those apply to the vast majority of detroit citizens. if he wants a new arena, he can fucking afford to build it -- abe pollan at least did that for the arena in dc.

(i don't mean to specifically pick on the wings -- almost nothing could be more egregious than jeffrey loria and the marlins, and my penguins were in this situation very recently -- but it's current and detroit is after all in bankruptcy.)

mookieproof, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 02:16 (ten years ago) link

NHL denying the Forbes report about the Devils, which of course means nothing.

If we had a board I'd roll a great hockey portrait thread and it would be the absolute zenith.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux had surgery on his right index finger after getting injured on a golf course in Ottawa.

Giroux sustained tendon damage when a golf club shattered and splintered into his finger Thursday. It's unknown what caused the club to shatter.

a+ flyer injury

mookieproof, Friday, 16 August 2013 02:12 (ten years ago) link

vhs you can still start a thread on ile

mookieproof, Friday, 16 August 2013 02:14 (ten years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Teemu is back!

Van Horn Street, Friday, 30 August 2013 22:47 (ten years ago) link

25 away from 700 goals. I will follow that closely. Jagr is 19 away, but bleh.

Other cool milestones from player you better like:
St-Louis to 1000 points.
Marian Hossa to 1000 points.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 30 August 2013 22:53 (ten years ago) link

I haven't followed Bryz's story this summer but how in hell is he still unsigned?

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 September 2013 23:27 (ten years ago) link

no one wants a goalie who isn't good enough for the flyers

mookieproof, Saturday, 7 September 2013 23:29 (ten years ago) link

I believe it's the Flyers that mismanage their goalies, give him a good 'goaltenders first' coach (Tippet, Hitchcock) and he will be fine.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 September 2013 23:41 (ten years ago) link

The guys fucking insane. Granted that's not necessarily a negative when it comes to being an NHL goalie (see belfour, Ed) but this dude is just an idiot. And I'm not sure you need Jacques plante to win the cup anymore. Just a guy who won't lose it.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Sunday, 8 September 2013 04:17 (ten years ago) link

ed belfour wasn't insane so much as drunk

mookieproof, Sunday, 8 September 2013 05:27 (ten years ago) link

patty roy was insane tho, the twitchy bastard

shiny trippy people holding bandz (m bison), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:12 (ten years ago) link

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:32 (ten years ago) link

god bless paul holmgren and the flyers

The world awaits a reasonable explanation of the Dan Cleary contract

this signing seems to be confirmed

D@v3 M. (dan m), Thursday, 12 September 2013 15:17 (ten years ago) link

omg did he really take less money and a shorter deal to not be a flyer

mookieproof, Thursday, 12 September 2013 15:33 (ten years ago) link

omg did he really take less money and a shorter deal to not be a flyerremain a red wing

;)

D@v3 M. (dan m), Thursday, 12 September 2013 15:52 (ten years ago) link

a lot of fans are PISSED about this (see aforementioned Brunner comment) but the wings have shown they value leadership/experience in players as much as youth/talent/speed in many ways

D@v3 M. (dan m), Thursday, 12 September 2013 15:53 (ten years ago) link

Worked out well for them last year.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Thursday, 12 September 2013 16:11 (ten years ago) link

Grats Kings, worthy champs imo

dan m, Saturday, 14 June 2014 19:48 (nine years ago) link

yeah what do you think of that deal?

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 28 June 2014 01:36 (nine years ago) link

I'm always glad when a blueliner is drafted #1

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 28 June 2014 01:37 (nine years ago) link

i'm not really sorry to see neal go -- he won't put up those numbers without malkin and was evidently kind of a dick -- but they got no picks and no salary relief. tbf, i know absolutely nothing about the guys they got back, but i do wish i'd heard of them.

the whole gm/coaching search was awful and half-assed. the coach, who is saying all the right things and might still be great, was an obvious third (at least) choice who was compelled to take rick tocchet on his staff. the gm is an obvious caretaker with like half a dozen assistant gms fighting for priority.

i've heard that bill guerin (one of the agms) is super bright and beloved in the organization, but grooming multiple successors is just a recipe for further chaos.

crosby + malkin, tho. it shouldn't be this hard

mookieproof, Saturday, 28 June 2014 01:57 (nine years ago) link

apparently garth snow won the draft with ho-sang
