Grimly - have you given up on your desire to have them all sent to your phone as texts like the old days?

There are a few "brian eno"s on twitter. No idea if any of them are brian eno.

I'd like an oblique strategem every morning. That I would like.

Twitter is only good if you follow people you know well enough to actually care about the tiny minutia of their lives. I'd find it intrusive to follow a stranger. (latest big crush excepted, of course.)

Seems a bit anachronistic of Twitter to keep asking 'what are you doing now?' when that's clearly not what makes Twitter interesting.

"chinese coke prank" (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 18 February 2009 21:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Depth:

Can we agree that most Twitter posts are about little beyond the fact of their own occurrence? Is it too much of a stretch to suggest that something existential is afoot? Is the sum of human knowledge much advanced by learning, instant by instant, that Marc Jacobs is having his hair dyed black, that Marc Jacobs is eating a McDonald’s burger and drinking a Diet Coke, that the beautiful Patti Smith look-alike model Jamie Bochert just got engaged, that the handsome and heavily-inked hairdresser Lorenzo Martone is not Marc Jacobs’s boyfriend?

This piece then goes on to say that things are not well in the NYC fashion world because there's some sort of economic problem.

Key words you can use to locate other ilxors:

1. ILX
2. Geir

we r from twitteronia, we connect (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 23 February 2009 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha ha, is that how you found me? I mentioned Geir while shouting at Charlie No. 4 this morning?

OK, wait - if you are following someone, but they are not following you, and you stick their screenname as an @username in your post (to clarify who you are talking about) - they don't see your reply, right?

Do people who are not following you see you when you reply to them?

Baby, Your Phasing Is Bad (Masonic Boom), Monday, 23 February 2009 22:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I dunno. Getting mad at Shaq for not following me back is kinda like getting upset with Bob Mould because he didn't bookmark my blog in return.

•--• --- --- •--• (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 23 February 2009 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

In other words, Shaq needs to concentrate on -- in order -- maintaining his twitter and playing basketball, and NOT worrying about what lil ol me's gotta say about anything.

Guys, PR people are obsessed with Twitter. This UK journo is taking pitches for 2 days only via his Twitter:

You know what, I think my interest in Twitter is bordering on an obsession. This is the third blog post in a row that I've focused on the site and I'm sure it won't be the last!

It's getting to the point that the only time I don't tweet is when I'm asleep although I'm sure it won't be long until some bright spark creates an app that means I can even twitter via my dreams!

On a serious point though, Twitter is proving hugely advantageous. Not only is it improving BusinessZone.co.uk's traffic figures but its positive impact on my role as a journalist can't be questioned.

It's becoming very common, for instance, for news stories to break on Twitter and the times recently when people have alerted me to a story hours after I'd read it in a tweet are too numerous to list.

With all that mind, I've decided to run a little experiment and to the public relations executives reading this blog it's time for you to pay special attention.

The journalist/PR relationship is a strange one. I admit I'm prone to the odd rant following a call from someone pitching me a story which is completely irrelevant to the subjects I write about or far too advertorial to warrant coverage but unfortunately given my job, listening to the occassional pitch which I can do nothing with is a necessary evil.

But PRs, it's time for a change!

I really don't have time to take irrelevent calls but I will read tweets so next Monday and Tuesday - 23rd and 24th February - I will only accept PR pitches via Twitter. That means you have just 140 characters to grab my attention so it had better be good. I will only deal with single tweets so no pitches which expand into multiple updates will be considered.

If you're not on Twitter and you plan on giving me a call, I'd advise registering now and the usernames you need to bear in mind are @---------------- and @----------------. The best stories will get covered and I'll even publish your tweets.

Let the challenge commence!

Twitter reminds me of the Internet and the people on it circa 1999.
