Good choice IMO. Def the strongest out of the 3 singles so far.

i can't decide whether making one of her breasts look deformed or making her have stubbly ass/stomach is worse? or just the entire concept to start with

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:40 (ten years ago) link

Someone should really sit him down and tell him that Timberbond is never going to happen.

they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:42 (ten years ago) link

honestly think i'd be more excited if he was cast as bond than for another album

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:45 (ten years ago) link

or a bond guy for a queered/gender-flipped bond film which is the only thing that would make me excited about bond at this point, whatever

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:46 (ten years ago) link

is it within the realms of possibility that this whole cocktail sophistication vibe is bid to get casting agents to call JT about more serious parts?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

i'm into the idea of dudes being all "nice a boob... oh shit, is that a nose??"

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:17 (ten years ago) link

"nice ass... oh shit is that stubble"

lex pretend, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:30 (ten years ago) link

"is it within the realms of possibility that this whole cocktail sophistication vibe is bid to get casting agents to call JT about more serious parts?"

of course it is, I can't think of it being anything but, I'm actually expecting the tunnel vision video to be a recreation of the sean parker narnia video but with naked women

katherine, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:43 (ten years ago) link

(along those lines it may be a gender divide but my impression was "what. is this supposed to be justin's face through a peephole because that's very creepy -- oh wait it's a naked chick.")

katherine, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

xpost He's been cast in plenty of serious parts!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

timberlake is great at roles that make some allowance for dweebishness (friends with benefits, social network, alpha dog, etc) but In Time was definite proof he should never be given a role that could otherwise go to jason statham

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 23:09 (ten years ago) link

OK, I guess the sap of "Mirrors" is finally sinking in. It's like his "Winds of Change."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:28 (ten years ago) link

The radio version is an improvement. I won't change the station when it's on but it's still an exhausting listen.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:36 (ten years ago) link

Also, jarred this morning by the realization that this album, along with the Daft Punk and Kanye and maybe the Depeche Mode, are 2013 discs I've never made it all the way through. It's to Kanye's credit that he's twice the slog in less than half the time of the others.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:41 (ten years ago) link

three weeks pass...

Oh well DONE there.

"take back the night" really justin????????

lex pretend, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link

Man, fuck getting excited about a song based in 10 seconds. Given JT's track record, this song is probably 8 minutes long, and this snippet is just like a taste of the intro.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 17:23 (ten years ago) link

lol

Lex otm, cannot believe that title

what rhymes with Gukbe? (some dude), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:45 (ten years ago) link

The video, in which Timberlake coos and begs rape victims to "stand up" and "take back the night" as they walk to his dressing room, is described by Timberlake as "pushing the envelope." [1] "You don't see too many guys doing what I'm doing," Timberlake said in an interview with MTV News, "I'm empowering women to be who they want to be." [2]

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:56 (ten years ago) link

But as far as whether this piece of music moves me emotionally, I never look down on anybody else’s opinion. If a 14 year old girl comes to me and can make the case about some Britney Spears song moving her to tears, or making her life better, filling her with joy, if she honestly feels that emotion, then God bless her! I mean, that’s what all of us are trying to find in life, those reasons for living, those pieces of art that make our life better, that connect with us. I think that’s wonderful, as long as she can make the case. But if she’s just buying that Britney Spears record because it’s the hip new sound that’s been sold to her, along with her Abercrombie & Fitch clothing and her Sony PlayStation and her Starbucks, then that’s a horrible con, and it’s as bad as being raped. I just think that’s horrible. So I wrote "Take Back the Night" for them. And if they don't like it, fuck them and their poor taste.[3]

^^that seemed to indicate you had no idea

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:42 (ten years ago) link

i went to an american college, believe me i'm well aware of what "take back the night" is

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:46 (ten years ago) link

ha, how ~curious~ that he's suddenly releasing a disco song now

TBTN sounds like exactly what I already wanted.

the evening dj there (Eric H.), Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:49 (ten years ago) link

well then it's not exactly an innocuous title is it?

xp

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:50 (ten years ago) link

i don't think it's an outrage for him to use the phrase, no

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:51 (ten years ago) link

Not necessarily outrage, but definitely facepalm. Especially paired with what little lyrics we already know. I'm hoping for a rape whistle solo.

If I've learned anything about pop music, it's that if the groove is hot, the lyrics can murder my mom for all I care.

the evening dj there (Eric H.), Thursday, 11 July 2013 14:02 (ten years ago) link

(Don't murder my mom, "Turn Back the Night.")

the evening dj there (Eric H.), Thursday, 11 July 2013 14:03 (ten years ago) link

Yeah I'm already a little prepared to feel conflicted because that little snippet sounded more promising than his other recent singles
