William Roache charged with indecent assault

BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for sexually abusing girls.

15 *months*? FFS.

His barrister Crispin Aylett, in mitigation, told the court the former broadcaster had "all of 13" victims compared to Jimmy Savile's 1,300.

"Please bear in mind m'lud that my client only killed three people and Hitler killed six million..."

Ian Brady said something very similar, just now.

on same note, im surprised and gladdened that he's been brought to justice for this, esp considering the conviction rate for a) sex crimes and b) so long after the fact. good in loads of ways, warning sign to any current toerags and endless sleepless nights for all the scumbags of yesteryear

i never really made up my mind re: the whole pinochet thing: 'should a knackered old man be put to trial', but the savile thing put me firmly on the 'hound those fuckers on their deathbed if need be' camp

Like I know this is obvious but Mail readers (or maybe just commenters) (nah, readers) are such shockingly awful judges of character.

lol just remembering last autumn when the Savile revelations were coming out, and journos were all 'yeah all the papers knew we just couldn't publish it'. But still cool to publish fawning stories about a guy they know to be a serial sexual predator of children.

The MO for covering people like that, as far as I am aware, is to mention whatever it is they're trying to hide in the most glowing of terms, laying it on as thickly as possible, in the hopes of getting enough of a rise out of the subject that their lawyer can't really help them...

yer man on the panel there seems to say something like "it's a Spitting Image nightmare". Spitting Image back in the 80s was the only show i recall ever actually having a pop at him, constantly having the puppet Jimmy refer to himself as "You sad man".
