I have no patience or something because whenever I turn it on I just have to turn it off or put something else on :(I really like the melody she was fuckin w/ in the first 30 secs or so

Saw her last night. She played at least one new song, I think it will be called 'Mean What You Say' or something like that. Nice uptempo thing. She said it's going to be a long time before we get to hear the album. The rest of the show was older, slow stuff.

A pleasant atmospheric listen, probably best experienced in a convertible driving around LA on a summer night.

hear it feeling like a hal hartley protagonist striding ever forward into crisp bright engulfing summer wind

This AMTHST ep is pretty but maybe a little too drifty. For very sedate listening only.

yeah. I bought it but I prefer her pop stuff, cf. "It Goes Through Your Head"

also v surprised that this doesn't visibly seem to consist of any of thr great between-lps songs that came up once in a while. so hyped
― 1st Amendment absolutist in favor of the unltd publication of sextapes (schlump), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 01:58 (eight years ago) link
wasn't thrilled by this song, seems to lack some of the sharper song writing from the last album
― Check Yr Scrobbles (Moodles), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 02:23 (eight years ago) link
She vocal sounds a bit like Grimes on the first half or so of the track
― calstars, Thursday, 7 April 2016 01:21 (eight years ago) link
Totally, don't know if that's what she's going for or if it is more of a callback to her earlier stuff
― Check Yr Scrobbles (Moodles), Thursday, 7 April 2016 01:47 (eight years ago) link
whole record is home-recorded straight to tape just by ramona i think! so i hope so

I wonder how much Cole had to do with the record.
― calstars, Thursday, 7 April 2016 11:26 (eight years ago) link
liquid cool comes out tomorrow...first listening now and I'm in love with her all over again. it's a much different record than One Second...more homemade, more emotional
― calstars, Friday, 10 June 2016 01:24 (seven years ago) link
does it have hooks?
― Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Friday, 10 June 2016 02:16 (seven years ago) link
Not as many as One Second
― calstars, Friday, 10 June 2016 03:14 (seven years ago) link
It sounds a lot more full-bodied than anything before, thd production is very thick and humid. Not a great deal of hooks and her voice feels somewhat obscured but I still enjoyed it.
― boxedjoy, Friday, 10 June 2016 07:09 (seven years ago) link
hmm, new one not hitting the sweet spot very often. feels a little underworked at times; the songs sometimes seem to go on forever with minimal variation. feels like a holding motion, honestly.

you now & running out of time so so classic
the first song also
I'm into this album, which is a relief because I didn't think much of the last one.

Nothing But Scenery is awesome and deep
― calstars, Saturday, 18 June 2016 20:04 (seven years ago) link
yeah so heavy & unusual; bc it starts so unadorned it was v surprising to play the record & hear it, but it has shades of the weird repurposing mission nj records have generally, i think. i remember reading some interview w her forever ago where she talks abt synthetic sounds from the eighties having a second act, like there having been a literally creative phase in which instruments were invented but their use being sort of truncated by the limits of the era in which they were populated, & it's so hazy & kind of eerie to hear her duet in sync w/ chiming synth noise
― schlump, Sunday, 19 June 2016 00:26 (seven years ago) link
agree, it's a very strange *sounding* album but can't put my finger on exactly how

― ejemplo (crüt), Monday, 20 June 2016 13:43 (seven years ago) link
Too much echo and reverb. There seems to be some good singing underneath all of tgat, but it's hard to tell.

Nite Funk is out today. Dam's jams are nice and Ramona plays a subdued role vocally for the most part.

i am just being difficult but i am enjoying this record so much !, + then halfway thru listening i remember the internet's ambivalence + kick a hole in the speaker, snap the arm from the turntable, take a bite out of the record + beat my chest wailing like harvey keitel. i saw her play w julia holter a few nights ago. it is such a good record, i think, + super interesting to hear her talk abt it existing as a kind fundamental full-circle nj record, like sharing so much dna w the first lp. the slow jams really grow on me too.
i bought the lp + read the v spare words for the first song i'd been getting hung up on, i still can't tell why it's spookin me so, living in this quiet zone. so gd !
