Robin van Injury (country matters), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Jesus DID kind of forget about Jose, who was not assigned a color that Jesus loves.

goole, Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:46 (fifteen years ago) link

actually, the weirdest thing about the white kids segment is how it kicks in with the first few bars of "la marseillaise" -- given the whites-are-hicks theme for that segment, when did that song become a shit-kicker signifier?!?

Ein kluges Äpfelchen (Eisbaer), Thursday, 12 February 2009 23:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Re the grocery store's salute to Black History Month, our high-school cafeteria used to serve sweet potatoes, fried chicken, greens, etc. for a couple of days during February, which a few of my friends and I were always o_O about but no one else seemed to bat an eye at. As Max suggested, I think it was more insensitive than anything else: white school administrators honestly trying to do something nice for the 25% of the student body that was African American.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Monday, 2 March 2009 13:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Our kid's daycare gives us a photocopied calendar each month, and January featured this caricature of Martin Luther King that looked like he had just dropped something very heavy on his foot.

Goddamn that is a random group of stickers. The crazy bird at the bottom looks like an Aztec thing. You don't have the Klan in the UK do you?

i was struggling with ideas for my birthday presents at the end of the month, i can so ask for this.
i can see it now, out on the town pulling ladies, getting respect and compliments on my new tattoos.
