it reads like a reference to pussy riot although I guess numerous parties could come up with the idea of pastel ski masks independently

I don't think I realized until recently that this is going to be a mainstream movie that people might actually see

yea last i saw (a week ago maybe?) they were expanding it to 550 theaters next week, now it sez 1000+ next wk

Bet it will do at least as well as Pineapple Express.

it is crazy that anything Harmony Korine does gets any mainstream exposure. I love him but this is a serious coup he's pulled off here, even if the movie is terrible.

when a friend said he looked forward to this movie and he mentioned Korine's name I don't think I said anything for a few seconds.

The scene where the girls put Pitbull in a microwave has apparently been cut for the N. America release.

Pineapple Express is actually a pretty high bar to match ($87 million domestic!) so i kinda doubt it'll make half that, but even half would be an impressive accomplishment

yeah I dunno if it'll do that, but a 90 grand per-theater while only playing in 2 theaters is pretty impressive in itself, so at this point I wouldn't be too shocked if it clears 40 mil

the trailer has one of the girls says "i have a really bad feeling about this" just as the only black guy in the movie appears

I read through Pitchfork's interview/feature thing. I haven't been this psyched for a movie since a couple years ago. I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty hugely polarizing.

there were some really effective scenes tho... the first one where the girls are in the pool springs to mind

but yeah the colors in this movie are unreal

This is enough to push just about any movie to the 90th percentile for me, though I think there's a lot more going on beyond that in this case.

this is great. if nothing else the funniest movie i've seen in a few years

otm: i saw it in a suburban theater at 10pm with only abt 40-45 other ppl, but when the britney piano sequence started it was the most laughter i've heard since borat on opening weekend

throughout the movie i was like damn skeillex must have listened to a ton of cliff martinez before he sat down to score this, until i saw the credits lol

i def went in with too many expectations and wasn't really in to it at first but once i kicked back and just let it do its thing i really was enraptured with it. with the multiple voiceovers and floaty non-linear editing its really much closer to malick than any obvious mann/depalma/tarantino comparisons (or korine for that matter), but a bizarro world malick where ~oneness~ is replaced by ~endless tension~

gucci was great, couldn't help but imagine how better it would have been with the almost-happened riff raff appearance

just thinking about franco going 'spring breaaakkk... spring breaakkk....' is making me crack up

I'm not sure Korine's editing tack of endless looping did much for me on this. Think it woulda been better served as a medium length piece (like a lot of other full-length pics.)
