Justin Timberlake in 2013

like you posted that, then i went on itunes and didn't see anything, googled "justin timberlake 20/20 experience stream itunes" and saw a link to justin's official website with the announcement posted "3 minutes ago"

right this is actually the first time i've ever listened to one of these pre-release streams that are just one track and what with every song having separate intros/outros and also lasting a million years long each, i'm not sure whether these songs are actually structureless or if i'm just being confused

i guess my other big problem with "mirrors" is that it sounds like he can't quite sing the chorus, it's painful

it's weird because they don't even function as segues, so they're just songs with 2-3 distinct parts

i really love that song... i think it's a great vocal performance. it IS a bit strained, but i think that's the point? it's kinda raw, like he can't physically express the strength of his love etc

i'll never forgive johnny fever for dropping the ryan tedder bomb on that song even tho i've managed to shake it

this album is basically JT jamming kinda aimlessly about jessica biel over music which sounds occasionally lovely. the songiest songs are probably the worst, actually

this album def has a heavy "wow i'm so in love, i'm married" vibe too it which i can dig

i've been wondering if FS/LS has gotten a bit too revered as everyone has waited for a new album.

If anything it feel like its esteem has cooled in the intervening years. I see way more repping for Justified these days.

justified singles also destroy this new one, that i can definitely say, first listen or not

yeah that's true but i mean that's a pretty unfair bar. how many albums since justified have had singles as good as "like i love you"/"cry me a river"/"seniorita"

There's a few ehhhhhh tracks on Justified but it has some dope album tracks too (mostly the Neptunes ones) don't front

it's only recently that the Justified album tracks exist for me. I can get with the Justified >>> FS/LS love but it's funny: I love the later FS/LS singles more than the early ones ("Summer Love," "Lovestoned," "Until the End of Time").

i'm just relieved this album isn't a disaster tbh, happy to have him around, happy it's not guetta/harris even if it is timba2013. thought 'suit and tie' sounded alright on snl, if nothing amazing (i read someone, maybe vulture, calling it a janelle monae tribute which read 'wow you have heard zero r&b huh' but was still true enough to condemn it). 'mirror' sounded fucking dire though, my first hearing was on snl but can't imagine studio version suddenly turns that into a good song.

Blue Ocean Floor is kinda affecting or I imagine it would be to folks who maybe have a heart.

I feel like "Until the End of Time" has had a renaissance lately. I keep hearing it and also the newish Brenmar remix is dope.

word it probably didn't help at the time that the single was released like an entire year after the album came out. prob flew under the radar a bit.

the Greer post on Beyonce totally reads like JT could have written it!

yeah the album's marketing inspired my awe more than the album itself: a classic eighties blockbuster with many singles charting more than a year after release.

for ages i was only into the justified singles but i pretty much love the whole thing now; conversely i have no time for anything that comes after "chop me up" on FS/LS

"Summer Love" seemed slight at first but it was absolutely perfect to drive around in the summer to.

I made that same defense.

i still maintain that every single one of those singles sounds way better in the context of the album and they're done no favors when compared to the justified singles (which imo tower over everything else)

i think my general scepticism about JT projects despite the fact that i mostly love his music is pretty much down to the fact that he's really impressed with "classic" signifiers of artistry and really adept at marketing himself along those lines, and i couldn't care less - i have to ignore how he sells his albums, really.

god I even liked the Tiesto remix of "LoveStoned."
