make love on the moon bruh

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

but

this album sounds damn good to me

i gotta agree

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

it's definitely more of a ~vibe~ than anything else and while it's a pretty good vibe, something about that makes me sigh

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

i've been wondering if FS/LS has gotten a bit too revered as everyone has waited for a new album. i mean that album is hot but it's not, you know, thriller or some shit. which is basically what this album would have to be for anyone to consider it better than FS/LS.

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, gasfaced at that guitar solo.

Greer, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago) link

this album def has a heavy "wow i'm so in love, i'm married" vibe too it which i can dig

this guitar solo def has some andre 3000 swag to it -_-

i'm getting this too, in light of this it seems really weird that the entire pre-release angle has been "JT rekindles his love affair with music" when framing it as a love album about a person is a more attractive proposition

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:09 (eleven years ago) link

the "spaceship coupe" outro is really dope

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:10 (eleven years ago) link

oh man, "that girl"

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:12 (eleven years ago) link

really enjoyed the endlessness of "strawberry bubblegum"/"tunnel vision"

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:12 (eleven years ago) link

"spaceship coupe" getting serious side-eye though, ugh those lyrics, it's like "walking on the moon" but more boring

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:12 (eleven years ago) link

ha i think the outro redeems that song tho

"that girl" is fucking perfect tho

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:13 (eleven years ago) link

will say that on a few of the songs something sounds off, the beats sound overstuffed and overcompressed and seem to communicate through foam, especially right now on "let the groove get in"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

but the liftoff moment on "let the groove get in" is pretty awesome i gotta say

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

also ahaha i really enjoyed "spaceship coupe," the guitar solo is just stupid enough to work for me

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:16 (eleven years ago) link

ha i think the outro redeems that song tho

i hadn't got to the outro at that point. now i have. based on your posts i was expecting something with...some actual things

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link

i just thought the melody was really nice

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link

oh man the outro of "let the groove get in"

i feel really bad liveblogging this bc i think i'm mostly surprised that i don't hate this, that i actually find it sonically pleasant at points, and that's causing me to overrate it, especially this deep in

but oh man

the outro

of "let the groove get in"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:18 (eleven years ago) link

UGH "MIRRORS" JUST STARTED AND IT IS STILL DIRE

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:19 (eleven years ago) link

i feel really bad liveblogging this bc i think i'm mostly surprised that i don't hate this, that i actually find it sonically pleasant at points, and that's causing me to overrate it, especially this deep in

ha this sums up what i'm feeling, but as with all first listen liveblogs this is for sure not a final judgment

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:20 (eleven years ago) link

haha "that girl" is super-cheesy, this really is JT at his most thickean yet

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:21 (eleven years ago) link

Blue Ocean Floor is kinda affecting or I imagine it would be to folks who maybe have a heart.

Greer, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

"let the groove get in" is very, like, "hate that you love me"

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

mixed with gloria estefan of course

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:23 (eleven years ago) link

hey Greer, are you justin timberlake? how did you know the album was streaming before any website in the world had it linked

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

like you posted that, then i went on itunes and didn't see anything, googled "justin timberlake 20/20 experience stream itunes" and saw a link to justin's official website with the announcement posted "3 minutes ago"

乒乓, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:25 (eleven years ago) link

right this is actually the first time i've ever listened to one of these pre-release streams that are just one track and what with every song having separate intros/outros and also lasting a million years long each, i'm not sure whether these songs are actually structureless or if i'm just being confused

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:26 (eleven years ago) link

i guess my other big problem with "mirrors" is that it sounds like he can't quite sing the chorus, it's painful

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:26 (eleven years ago) link

it's weird because they don't even function as segues, so they're just songs with 2-3 distinct parts

so prog

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:27 (eleven years ago) link

i really love that song... i think it's a great vocal performance. it IS a bit strained, but i think that's the point? it's kinda raw, like he can't physically express the strength of his love etc

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

i'll never forgive johnny fever for dropping the ryan tedder bomb on that song even tho i've managed to shake it

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

this album is basically JT jamming kinda aimlessly about jessica biel over music which sounds occasionally lovely. the songiest songs are probably the worst, actually

maybe it's his worldwide underground

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:30 (eleven years ago) link

open your heart, lex

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago) link

<i>like you posted that, then i went on itunes and didn't see anything, googled "justin timberlake 20/20 experience stream itunes" and saw a link to justin's official website with the announcement posted "3 minutes ago"</i>

Well you see what had happened was...*flees*

Greer, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago) link

it's kinda raw, like he can't physically express the strength of his love etc

he sounds bored and i know how he feels

thought i'd give this another chance in album context, turns out...i won't be doing that right now, anyway

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago) link

this album def has a heavy "wow i'm so in love, i'm married" vibe too it which i can dig

lol I was totally watching SNL and thought to myself "why is JT single? poor JT." having COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN the dude just got married a few months ago.

i'll never forgive johnny fever for dropping the ryan tedder bomb on that song

True is true, man.

If anything it feel like its esteem has cooled in the intervening years. I see way more repping for Justified these days.

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

that shit is wild tho justified is pretty weak

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

justified singles destroy fs/ls though

balls, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

you can start to see the genesis of jimmy buffet pharrell drinking out of a coconut basslines and shit on that album

dopest singles ever tho

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

justified singles destroy fs/ls though

yes this has long been my position

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

justified singles also destroy this new one, that i can definitely say, first listen or not

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that's true but i mean that's a pretty unfair bar. how many albums since justified have had singles as good as "like i love you"/"cry me a river"/"seniorita"

basically none

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

There's a few ehhhhhh tracks on Justified but it has some dope album tracks too (mostly the Neptunes ones) don't front

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago) link

it's only recently that the Justified album tracks exist for me. I can get with the Justified >>> FS/LS love but it's funny: I love the later FS/LS singles more than the early ones ("Summer Love," "Lovestoned," "Until the End of Time").

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 11 March 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

i'm just relieved this album isn't a disaster tbh, happy to have him around, happy it's not guetta/harris even if it is timba2013. thought 'suit and tie' sounded alright on snl, if nothing amazing (i read someone, maybe vulture, calling it a janelle monae tribute which read 'wow you have heard zero r&b huh' but was still true enough to condemn it). 'mirror' sounded fucking dire though, my first hearing was on snl but can't imagine studio version suddenly turns that into a good song.

balls, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

my god i think i'm with jt on this one
