These beefs scan as desperate cries for attention and they threaten to overshadow anything she might be doing right

i don't get the notion that this is going to kill her career or something

what is a "necessary villain shtick"? is that like the dudley boyz?

Pretty much, I mean if the Dudley boyz didn't win all the time nobody would have had to give a shit.

well no, being terrible is what's going to kill her career

Darth Icky (DJP), Monday, 11 March 2013 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

if anything's going to kill her career it's that her only galvanizing song is the first one... she's definitely in the "any publicity is good publicity" stage of her career imo

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

True enough, she may be a trainwreck but people are most definitely watching.

tsrobodo, Monday, 11 March 2013 14:34 (eleven years ago) link

so who's a bigger flameout... az or kreayshawn...

乒乓, Monday, 11 March 2013 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

AZ is definitely making a bigger splash but no one actually thought Kreayshawn was going anywhere, did they? AFAICT no one has spent any time pretending or attempting to convince themselves that they like anything by her other than "Gucci Gucci", whereas ppl are still acting like AZ has the potential to put out good songs.

Darth Icky (DJP), Monday, 11 March 2013 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

I definitely think Kreayshawn has the potential to put out more good songs if she goes back to making catchy street rap. Not holding my breath until she does though.

longneck, Monday, 11 March 2013 14:45 (eleven years ago) link

banks will 100% sell more albums than kreayshawn, if that's the barometer

based on the crowd when i saw kreayshawn in dec., she'd be smart to try and reinvent herself as, like, rap for people who go to warped tour

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 14:48 (eleven years ago) link

i don't get the notion that this is going to kill her career or something

i agree that az banks yelling on twitter won't turn the public off her, but it's probably got to be turning potential collaborators (musical and non-musical) in the industry off her - not so much beefing with randoms like the stone roses or iggy azalea but turning on people she had good working relationships with like baauer and shystie

although at this point the paucity of official material - let alone good official material that matches up to her one great track - is what will kill her career; it's fair to surmise that, regardless of the beefs, she's having issues getting this debut album made and released

r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 15:02 (eleven years ago) link

it's probably got to be turning potential collaborators (musical and non-musical) in the industry off her

That's what I was thinking when I asked the twitter question. Who's going to work with her if there's a chance they'll be attacked five minutes later for doing so or not doing so?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 11 March 2013 15:05 (eleven years ago) link

lol "a chance"

Darth Icky (DJP), Monday, 11 March 2013 15:07 (eleven years ago) link

plus it's reeealllly not a good look when you're turning on people with much less of a profile than you, you just come off like a bully rather than the (potentially endearing) bratty upstart like when you attack established names

also at this point i'm less sure it's part of a PR masterplan, though possibly AZB herself thinks she's doing it for publicity.

r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Monday, 11 March 2013 15:09 (eleven years ago) link

idk i mean everyone on ilx was birdman handrubbing in expectation of asap rocky's downfall & he did pretty well both commercially & critically. i don't doubt the azb album will be good enough to yield similar results

drake isn't about to sell azealia a top 40 single

rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 11 March 2013 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

If she was only good for one track then she'd be a non-factor and nobody would give this shit the time of day.

She has a fair number of good to great tunes.

i'd say that it's still possible that she hooks up w/ some big name for one major push at a billboard hit

i think more importantly, i doubt that she's cultivated the type of fanbase that he has

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 15:59 (eleven years ago) link

last i heard she was asking and getting upper five figures for a 2013 live show; that kind of money is not last year's one hit wonder

true but he's pretty unique in that regard, and 212 had more reach than purple swag. also ilx denied the existence of his fanbase for the longest time, recall deej & surboards arguing about whether or not only ny media types like him. they're comparable, and it's not like it was at all obvious asap would have a hit

flopson, Monday, 11 March 2013 16:21 (eleven years ago) link

also i'm gonna go ahead and reiterate that the 1991 EP was pretty good
this twitter shit is dumb (but cheap)promo at a stunning level of unawareness but i can't see it impacting popularity in any way, just pissing off stans for her (picked with her eyes closed apparently) targets and people over 30

the fake Beyonce tracklist going around last week had an A Banks feature, which was horrifying just to contemplate as a remote possibility

"1991" is alright, the only other AZB song i have time for

(still undecided on this new one)

it definitely seems like she's still pretty beloved by a certain types of basics out there, imo

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 March 2013 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

at this point I think she her main talent/ability to suck the charm out of every track she raps/sings over

I'm listening to the 1991 EP just to see if I'm being too harsh here and dear god the coda/spoken outro skit on "Van Vogue" is really making me wish someone would shoot her

who is this person? i hear she is controversial. what's the best song she has so i can give her a shot?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 11 March 2013 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

all these recent tracks are so hookless. maybe it would help if she worked in the studio with producers more instead of (apparently) jacking a beat and then later asking if she can release it.

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Monday, 11 March 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

the weird thing abt the stone roses thing is that she said it was her ex-tour manager conspiring with the stone roses to soundcheck during her set, not possibly that....the stone roses are completely oblivious and just soundchecking because they are the stone roses and don't even know wtf she is

i dunno if someone used to work for Banks i have no trouble believing they'd hold enough of a grudge to do that to her on purpose

some dude, Monday, 11 March 2013 22:20 (eleven years ago) link
