has anyone else heard radio stations cut off the "suit & tie" intro and just start right at the tempo change? an improvement obviously but it's lol that i've heard stations go to the trouble of cutting off that part.

i dont even care that it's a straight robin thicke rip... sometimes you gotta admit that JT does thicke better than thicke does thicke =)

乒乓, Sunday, 10 March 2013 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

Thicke has like 30 songs in this style that are better

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 13:23 (eleven years ago) link

YEAH RIGHT

乒乓, Sunday, 10 March 2013 13:27 (eleven years ago) link

Robin Thicke has released 4 albums since FutureSex/LoveSounds that all range from good to great

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

preach

thicke is a gross lil dweeb, there's literally nothing jt can do that wouldnt automatically be superior

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

i like JT but i don't really understand worship of him, he's very very fallible

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

i mean it's nice to have a monoculture superstar who's more likable than beyonce, but he's never been on some musical level far above everyone else

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:31 (eleven years ago) link

i wouldnt dispute that

u have misread my emphasis if that was directed at me

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:31 (eleven years ago) link

JT ain't got shit on Thicke.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:32 (eleven years ago) link

eh general comment

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

i mean i guess the album is out this week so i guess i'll wait and see if the world's regard for JT is still incredibly generous compared to his actual music after that

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:34 (eleven years ago) link

next week

maura, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

right yeah

some dude, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

JT has his moments but I don't see him making this automatically superior.

jt would make that one better actually, he'd introduce sense of persuasive playful (but not snl skit) wit

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

come to think of it 'dick in a box' is probably thicke's career high

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

That's very nice and all (putting aside the irony of the snl thing) but he wouldn't exactly be able to sing it better.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:53 (eleven years ago) link

it doesnt exist in a vacuum of technique tho

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:55 (eleven years ago) link

True, and I've taken that into account.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 14:58 (eleven years ago) link

i'm okay with "suit & tie" being a very good robin thicke song... i have enough room in my life for that. i definitely don't think that thicke -- as much as i like his stuff -- is on timberlake's level as an overall artist tho

"i have enough room in my life for that"

r|t|c, Sunday, 10 March 2013 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

i do! in fact maybe it would be cool if justin timberlake made a "robin thicke album that america actually cares about"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

i can't work out what JT did that inspired j0rdan's bump of this thread

i like thicke BUT timberlake is def the way superior artist BUT not, so far, in this campaign

r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

wel he performed on SNL last night

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 17:49 (eleven years ago) link

oh right

yeah, this is p much my opinion

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

on another note, I just realized the other day how much I love "All Tied Up"

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

Love After War (ping pong take note) is def his weakest album other than maybe the first tho, which I've never heard. Something Else is his best altho The Evolution of Robin Thicke is maybe his most definitive

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

The idea of Timberlake being a distinct step up from Thicke doesn't really wash with me. Timberlake is the better entertainer and is infectiously charming but Thicke is the superior vocalist and has a better grasp on the sensuous.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 18:55 (eleven years ago) link

I wish I could unhear Mirrors.

thicke has some jams and his albums are all very solid and he's definitely underrated in a general sense, but dude's not holding a candle to FS/LS or the singles off 'justified'

this is kind of an insane conversation to even have imo

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

isn't the point that timberlake doing second rate thicke is exactly what's disappointing, given that he's the superior artist?

r&b morcilla (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i think that's a totally valid argument

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:01 (eleven years ago) link

you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song

乒乓, Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

Its little more than a matter of preference.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

well discussing matters of preference is boring

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:03 (eleven years ago) link

Well its either that or I'm insane.

tsrobodo, Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

So I was just looking at the track listing with track lengths today. I knew the album the album had only 10 tracks, but I didn't realize how long they were gonna be:

Justin Timberlake - Let The Groove Get In 07:12

let's hope so

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

Can you give us a preview of the new album?

There are 10 songs on this one, but the average length of each song is seven, eight minutes. We made it to listen from top to bottom. It's not so much a narrative or a story, but sonically we really made it to listen from top to bottom.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

haha how is that even a surprise at this point xxp

radric: the guccining (The Reverend), Sunday, 10 March 2013 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

The album is streaming on iTunes, just fyi.
