This is kind of exactly what I've been needing.

Come Save Me really reminds me of Panda Bear

never heard "the throw" til now, but maybe this is just what i needed, too. otoh i'm pretty damned buzzed and have some perfunctory writing to do :^\

His voice reminds me of porno for pyros. I still dont know if thats a good thing.

I heard this on Beatsinspace of all things, sounded a lot better than these bands usually do, but I've not gone back to it since. Think there's an album out next week which I'd be at least interested to hear.

That NPR link is of the new album.

this was playing during my lunch hour browse session.
really enjoyed it.
would have bought the album - but had no other copies in ...

Yeah I enjoyed this on first listen. The baggy element is definitely there (albeit the Weatherall/Screamadelica end of things) but is also sounds like they're attuned to what the Scandinavian dudes are doing as well, there's a total balearic vibe to all this as well.

I'm not sure the thiness of both the sound and the songwriting does them any favours in places but there's definite potential there. They should go all out and get Weatherall or, I dunno Mungolian Jet Set or someone to produce their second album.

Did You Have To gives off a nice Animal Collective-meets-Sugar Ray vibe.

Album's not bad, I kind of only like the ones that sound like this ^^^^ (Exercise, The Throw) and not the Beach Boys ones

Still not quite getting the fuss over this record, tbh.

This is lot better than I expected, but it's definitely more enjoyable when it veers towards 1991 and not 1996.

boxedjoy, Monday, 8 July 2013 21:55 (ten years ago) link

Also this really needs its running order shuffled around, there are some great extended blissed-out jams that have their mood spoiled by a Britpoppy guitar lick and some jarring vocals coming in straight afterwards.

Maybe I haven't heard enough Happy Mondays or whatever, but what this album most reminds me of is late-period Beck.

I heard this today (Come And Save Me) in an Old Navy and was struck enough to google to find out what it was. More than anything, it reminds me of Adventures In Stereo, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence. Interestingly, smack in the middle of Flatbush Brooklyn, half the store was singing along to the chorus. A very non-gentrified part of Flatbush.

Timely revive, considering they released a new track today.

Saw this band a couple of times at festivals a few summers ago and was really impressed. Interested to see what they come up with next although in recorded form they haven't really connected with me.
