Haven't bothered with The Prince of Tides, no matter how many times it's been referenced on The Simpsons.

Fargo and JFK are tied for my favorite from this group.

I think I'd rewatch a lot of these movies on their own and enjoy them but when they're put together on a list like this I feel like I hate all of them

That is, Babe is a great movie

It's kind of sad in retrospect how much I hoped Babe would win best picture.

The 2000s version of this poll will be sooooo easy. But I'm having a rough time with this one because I don't outright hate any of these. And I've avoided most of the ones that I probably would hate. Godfather 3 is tragic. Gump and American Beauty are pretty useless. I actually kinda like some of the more divisive flicks in the list (Good Will Hunting, Jerry Maguire, As Good As It Gets). As of the last time I saw them, anyway.

The Full Monty, all the way. i remember watching it as a teenager and being pretty pissed off the entire time. how anyone thought such classist, looksist garbage was worth a clump of cat litter is still beyond my ken.

Voted for Awakenings, cos the source material wld make a good movie, just not one starring Robin Williams and directed by Penny Marshall.

American beauty

Gump, shawshank, braveheart are all good-to-ok movies to leave on while channelsurfing

its gotta be godfather 3 for me. it made me bored and angry.

"bored and angry" common reactions to these, as opposed to eighties winners, which were merely "boring."

Angry indicates some level of engagement, unless it's anger I'm so bored.

As for the best of this lot, I'd say Pulp Fiction or Fargo, cause I'm boring.

Prince of Tides I saw at the time but only remember that it was like an abuse survivor narrative for 2/3 of the running time before inexplicably turning into a Streisand romcom.

I would add The Crying Game to that pair for my own top three.

mind is blown rediscovering that the Fugitive was nominated but I easily picked The Godfather Part III. There are plenty of movies I enjoyed less on the list and many I haven't seen because of how bad they look. But holy fucking cow Godfather Part III is just...such a lol.

Is American Beauty really that bad? I haven't seen it since it came out and don't really remember much about it. Now I'm tempted to rewatch just to see why it's so awful.

It's with little doubt the smuggest movie of all 50 of these.

sorry, i don't actually have a problem with The Fugitive, I'm just shocked to learn a decent action/adventure based on a TV franchise got a best picture nom. I knew Tommy Lee Jones won but I didn't think the academy affection went beyond that.

yeah you'd have to pay me to watch that. this is definitely the kind of list where trying to figure out the worst worst would lead to such a soul-crushing vortex of despair that i just stuck with the best worst.

Why don't we drop this subject? It's one thing to engage in badinage with these youngsters, but this sort of thing could be so easily misunderstood.

It's been ages since I've seen most of these films. Voted for the worst one I could remember seeing, which was Schindler's List.

haha what. There's certainly rong in the film, but no way is it worse than the abortion politics of The Cider House Rules or Kevin Spacey working out.

Saw Schindler's List with my church youth group. Some of them nearly got us all kicked out after they started laughing when the elderly prisoners were forced to run naked in the camps.

Schindler's List is in no way worse than Life Is Beautiful. My friend dragged me to that movie and I am still somewhat angry and resentful that I had to watch the whole thing.

A very tight competition, but I'm going with Life is Beautiful.

The Godfather Part III is not a bad film, merely a comedown.
