I have to say that "A Milli" is basically the only Lil Wayne joint I ever want to hear. It's fucking TOUGH.

happy house must be somewhere.

Gukbe, Friday, 6 February 2009 19:51 (fifteen years ago) link

all my single lobsters put a ring on it (tpp), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Although basically I've called the top five completely wrong as almost everything has already placed so American Boy and Blind will probably be the next two. I can't possibly imagine Paris, great as it is, placing above this lot. I dunno, is there a huge ILM following for If I Were A Boy or Bleeding Love?

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Uh, ELEPHANT IN ROOM that you're all missing... - Hercules, amirite

I hope "Eraser" makes the list.

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm thinking that The Chap's "Proper Rock" has gleaned about 20 lurker votes. Or maybe Volcano's "Palimpsests".

Oh wait. Well, one of my noms made top 50, I'm happy :D

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

this next one i believe everyone will agree on:

lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Should have posted this further upthread but I only found it now. I wish the cellist was better.

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:25 (fifteen years ago) link

There's no way "If I Were a Boy" would place above "Single Ladies" and there isn't much of a following for "Bleeding Love".

I don't think it's gonna happen, but I would be ELATED if "Rollin'" placed in the top 6. The likelihood of a niche rap dude track, even one as loved by ILM's rap contingent as that, placing above something as universally well-known and lauded as "A Milli" seems miniscule.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

6 - Estelle Feat. Kanye West - American Boy
209.5 points, 19 votes, 1 #1 vote
2 in P&J, 10 in p4k

How good is 'American Boy' by Estelle?

lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

lol

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

nevermind, missed this: Is "Blind" going to be #1?

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

lol again

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

top 5:

"Blind"
"Happy House"
???
????
?????

not sure if enough would have voted for "Paper Planes" this year to place it, totally at a loss for the other 2-3

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link

This list has more suspense than any movie I saw last year...

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link

So is "Put On" going to be the highest placer w/o a #1 vote?

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Blind, Happy House, Paper Planes, Oxford Comma, If I Were A Boy?

mike t-diva, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:32 (fifteen years ago) link

damn that l.e.s. artistes cover is dope dope dope

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:32 (fifteen years ago) link

guys there is gonna be a bon iver track in the top 5 probably 3. every single one of his songs was nominated

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

No way on "If I Were a Boy". I mean, the Beyonce single people actually LIKED only placed in the middle of the list.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

btw i mean there is gonna be a bon iver in the top 5 probably top 3, not 3 bon iver tracks in the top 5

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

paris maybe? b/c of the remix

no bon iver i bet, b/c of vote splitting

rent, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd be so happy if the Bon Iver vote fragmented so much that nothing of his placed.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

What is "Paris"?

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

skinny love is gonna be in the top 5 dudes

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

So is "Put On" going to be the highest placer w/o a #1 vote?

no

lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, way too big a probability of Bon Iver vote splitting.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Did any UK mcs ever do a remix of American Boy? And more importantly, is that Julio 'The Beast' Baptista at the end of the video?

I have to say I love that I can't tell what the top 5 is going to be like.

. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I think I've been conflating the name Friendly Fires with Fiery Furnaces each time I see it and thus ignoring it. Are they an electronic act (seems to be from what I'm gathering)?

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Another "L.E.S. Artistes" remix set to the video. imo pretty dope (but not as dope as the piano/cello version)

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link

What is "Paris"?

^^ I have to hold myself back from asking qns like this 90% of the time a song title is casually referred to in this thread with no mention of the artist

some dude, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

nah not really, basically british dance rock but instead of taking cues from post-punk they go more the spaciousness and euphoria of disco and house

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I kinda hate the "L.E.S. Artistes" video. :-/ Not the song, which is alright, just the vid.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Friendly Fires are kind of a hybrid dancepunk/electronic act...like The Rapture with sequencers (and a sometimes shoegaze atmospheric fetish).

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

ffs Rev ;-)

waht, I love that video, esp. the closeups of the screaming at the end
