Girl Who Lived On Heaven Hill is incredible. But so is Pink Turns To Blue. And I'm very fond of Books About UFOs. Fuck it, that one then.

"Reoccurring Dreams" with its endless waves of blows to the head is their greatest 14 minutes on record. But as for "songs", nothing beats "Divide And Conquer". Except "It's Not Funny Anymore", sometimes.

I'm going to go with 'Flip Your Wig'. If I was making a CD of bands for someone who didn't know them, This would be for the Du.

Oh god that song kicks utter ass, especially on that version. My answer to the poll: "Indecision Time".

"Heaven Hill ..." for me.

i scratched the fuck out of my copy of The Living End and it will no longer play ;( but yes that track RULES.

stevie, Friday, 21 December 2007 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Not sure if it's their best, but She Floated Away, from Warehouse: Songs and Stories, has always been a favorite. I guess I like the melodic Husker Du best (and Grant Hart's songs over Bob Mould's songs).

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 21 December 2007 00:35 (sixteen years ago) link

That song would make for a great drinking song.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 21 December 2007 01:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I only purchased Land Speed Record for the first time last week after being into Husker Du for over a decade, which is very poor form really. But I like it! Underrated as a hardcore album, even.

Can't get away from Reoccurring Dreams as a favourite, that is still pretty epochal to me. I have a VHS of them playing in London in '85 and the version of that is FACEMELTING, bootleg videotape sonics notwithstanding

DJ Mencap, Sunday, 23 December 2007 01:18 (sixteen years ago) link

So happy you said that! I just bought Land Speed Record too! :)

I know it's just a goof, but does anyone find The Baby Song especially spooky?

I had to take it off my Pod, it kept cropping up in shuffles, like something from a bad horror movie.

MaresNest, Sunday, 14 June 2009 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link

Damn, Grant Hart.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 15 June 2009 03:40 (fourteen years ago) link

"Eight Miles High" may be the pinnacle, but "Diane" from Metal Circus comes close.

Bill Magill, Monday, 15 June 2009 19:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Can you all not see the Youtube up there of Hüsker Dü performing "Diane" in 1981? Greg Norton doesn't even have the handlebar yet.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 15 June 2009 19:35 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost There's supposed to be a YouTube video there, don't you see it? Here's a link to click, just in case you don't mean it's not good.

The math on this post is boggling my mind right now. A 57 year old in 2009 would have been 18 in... 1970.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 27 November 2020 04:08 (three years ago) link

i think we should give Fer Ark the benefit of the doubt here. they were 18 in 1984, which would have made them 43 in 2009, when they posted that message. and they were thinking "i love just the same as a sprightly 57 year old would!", looking forward with envy to how they imagined they would feel about it in 2023. you're almost there Fer Ark, and we look forward to your check-in when the time comes

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 November 2020 04:17 (three years ago) link

You know, someone who does these all-encapsulating polls should do one with Husker Du and all the offshoot projects (Hart solo, Nova Mob, Mould solo, Sugar, and the other stuff Bob did, the Parmesan Crusted Halibut at Greg Norton's restaurant, etc.) I would be happy to participate.
