I guess I was kind of intentionally redundant, because the whole idea of getting wrapped up in your alter-ego is already gone wrong to begin with
This was a bit harsh. It's fine to have an alter ego or two. Perhaps what I meant was that to vehemently insist that your alter ego is a different person is a bit frightening.

Hang on to your alter ego, Andrew!

Sun Ra was from Saturn.

this is like that one terrible Stephen King story where the writer gets stalked by the other writer he went to college with and plaigiarized but then in the end it turns out that it wasn't the other writer stalking him and ruining his life and in fact it was actually him in some other self-retributive personality (airy Shyamalan "Willis is Dead" / "It's the Present" noise)

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 00:29 (nineteen years ago) link

I think H4lr4n Ell!50n did a few of those too. And then there is Poe's "William Williams."

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 00:31 (nineteen years ago) link

This is AWK's Chris Gaines.

nabisco, did you just give away a certain movie I haven't seen but was considering renting (but probably not)?

If they are all Andrew WK and Andrew WK is somewhere else and also there, can I still be me and where am I sitting?

coco, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 10:57 (nineteen years ago) link

There's now an FAQ on the main site, which doesn't actually help in the slightest. There now seems to be a distinction between Andrew W.K., "Andrew W.K." and Andrew W.K. Inc.

This is k-bonkers.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 13:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Notable facts about the FAQ on the front page:
1. They mention something about codes, and list a phone number with an NYC area code. Of course I called it just to see if it'd been shut down yet (it is on the front page of a major website) and when I did it cut automatically to a pre recorded message saying "this is Andrew WK I'm not here right now" or something like that. It was creepy.
2. Q: Is Andrew W.K. actually an actor hired to play a role?
A: "ANDREW W.K." is dedicated to making the most exciting music possible and committed to providing fans with a truly stimulating experience. Please refer to the article "WHO IS ANDREW W.K.?" for more information.

This is genius.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, Spencer has just made me actually like AWK for the first time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:15 (nineteen years ago) link

For some reason I though you were in the pro-AWK camp, Ned.
I no longer feel so alone!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:18 (nineteen years ago) link

There are many many other reasons to like Mr. WK, right now it's "She is Beautiful", just a wonderful pop song.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Spencer were you at his LA "debut" at the Whiskey A Go Go in 2002?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 23:49 (nineteen years ago) link

It was pre-"I Get Wet" but post-"Girls Own Juice" mini-tour. I took my friend from Japan when we were down there for ATPLA and we ended up leaving early. I wish I would have heard the record before seeing him, I was pretty shell-shocked as is... seeing him go from playing a tiny little noize club in SF (kimo's... RIP) to selling out the Whiskey in about 2 years.

this site catalogs all the bizarreness and theories. it's a very good site, and it's a fascinating read... oddly, this site is linked from AWK's main page. A bit odd, isn't it?

Also, what happened to that MTV show with him? (Or was it VH1? MTV2?)

hm. at first I thought that article was going to blow me away with new information, but the writer's claims are not backed up by anything, and it appears that his claims are simply "bolstered" by his disdain for AWK's style of music. I dunno, his statements are shocking, but he seems too biased to be reliable.

I can't open the first one on my Mac. That second guy neglects the fact that he put out records on the Bulb label as Andrew W.K. before getting signed to Island.

That baritone doesn't sound like any 17 year old I've ever heard. Maybe Rick Astley.

I had a crush on a girl and was deeply and passionately fixated on her. She had a baby face, a 14-tooth smile, large eyes, a crowned forehead, an oversized brow and a tender style.

What's a "14-tooth smile"?!?
