Armond White fans can listen to him explain how Ghost Rider 2 tackles the theme of vengeance more responsibly than Zero Dark Thirty, amongst other things, here:

Actually don't think I've heard his voice until now.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Monday, 21 January 2013 16:08 (eleven years ago) link

you gotta see him work a Q&A sometime.

French thriller Sleepless Night is a keeper, btw.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 24 January 2013 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

Is that the one that has Beatrice Dalle and goes by the title Domaine?

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Thursday, 24 January 2013 14:04 (eleven years ago) link

nope. This was shot by Tom Stern, Eastwood's cinematographer, and I prefer it to Deakins doing 007.

Well, Argo is power playing the guilds. I guess that means there's going to be a picture/director split at the Oscars this year.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Monday, 28 January 2013 03:10 (eleven years ago) link

Enhanced interrogation for "Argo" voters. If you like jingoism so much, let's see if you can take it.

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Monday, 28 January 2013 17:12 (eleven years ago) link

Oh no, I want him to at least get nominated for that one too.

Zero Dark 33⅓: The Final Insult (Eric H.), Monday, 28 January 2013 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

I'm lost; does this award start with a "gr" (and isn't for music)?

Biggest change in Oscar coverage I've seen over 20 years: At least half of it has shifted from advocacy of movies to advocacy of campaigns.

Deakins wins ASC for Skyfall

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

That's like his 9th ASC award; Oscar aren't going to give it to him until he shoots 3-D.

three weeks pass...

My year-end, then it's time to shut out the lights.

1. Knuckleball
2. The Pruitt-Igoe Myth
3. Free Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners
4. Inventing David Geffen
5. Promised Land
6. How to Survive a Plague
7. The House I Live In
8. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
9. Looper
10. Moonrise Kingdom

It takes me a while to see 10 I like enough to list. Lincoln and Amour I'll call Well Made Films that just don't stay with me--Zero Dark Thirty and Argo less than that, and The Master less still. I probably saw another 10-15 besides those.

I suspect that this is what a list of "MTV Movie Awards" winners *should* look like, but I've never felt more my age than I have just now.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Monday, 15 April 2013 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

LOL, I didn't even realize every single LOTR movie won. Twilight came up one half-movie short.
