i didn't really understand the coke post but i assume your intention wasn't to turn the thread into a fiona apple hatefest either way

some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 16:38 (eleven years ago) link

i'm playing the long game

"if i knew" is amazingly great

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 12:43 (eleven years ago) link

five months pass...

lol.

he was probably one of the few tolerable parts of the show last night even tho he sang "gorilla"

dyl, Monday, 26 August 2013 17:37 (ten years ago) link

lol. does he have enough recognizable songs to fill up a set?

dyl, Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:18 (ten years ago) link

on second thought i guess if justin timberlake can perform at the vmas for like an hour straight anything is possible

dyl, Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:19 (ten years ago) link

I saw Bruno Mars live a few weeks ago and he was great. I can't hate.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:19 (ten years ago) link

yeah he's a good fit, he could do soul/mj covers and it would be fine

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:25 (ten years ago) link

you only need a handful of recognizable tracks really

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:25 (ten years ago) link

The Stones only did 3 songs, and most of the others do 4.

A Made Man In The Mellow Mafia (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:27 (ten years ago) link

yeah, he has five #1s, he could a medley of shortened versions of all them and easily fill the 15 minute slot.

suggest ban & threadban method man & redman (some dude), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:53 (ten years ago) link

Plus bust out another cameo a la Sting, or one of the songs someone else had a hit with.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 September 2013 23:01 (ten years ago) link

I hope his halftime show features actual gorillas

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Sunday, 8 September 2013 20:04 (ten years ago) link

oh god i am really scared that "The Lazy Song" video is going to be recreated in the Super Bowl halftime show now

suggest ban & threadban method man & redman (some dude), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:37 (ten years ago) link

I may loathe his voice more than any living creature's, more than I loathe Alicia Keys' these days. Ubiquity's a bitch.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

i'm more pro-Bruno than anti-Bruno now, Unorthodox Jukebox won me over big time

suggest ban & threadban method man & redman (some dude), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:41 (ten years ago) link

hope stays away from that song altogether xxp

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:46 (ten years ago) link

hope *he

Super Bowl halftime show, huh?

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 18:59 (ten years ago) link

Anecdotal evidence has it that people were largely impressed. He's no one I listen to on purpose, but when I saw him last year, it was basically exactly like the halftime show, but for 90 minutes or whatever. He and his band are really good on stage. Why were the Chili Peppers there at all?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 February 2014 14:55 (ten years ago) link

so people too old or jaded to care who bruno mars is would find someone with name recognition

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:09 (ten years ago) link

He's got the James Brown moves down.

curmudgeon, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:11 (ten years ago) link

And the Police style song

curmudgeon, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:12 (ten years ago) link

my mom had never heard of him and is now a fan

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:23 (ten years ago) link

he drummed!

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:24 (ten years ago) link

He was good on the drums. I still like nothing about his music but I came away very very impressed by him as a performer.

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:25 (ten years ago) link

He had an unfathomable degree of perfection to his performance while still managing to seem loose.

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:26 (ten years ago) link

i loved the drum solo opening

also his drummer is his brother iirc

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:26 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that was all pretty slick. No surprise new tour dates got announced right after that, no better ad for it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:26 (ten years ago) link

he's had years of practice tbh

I thought the aging, shirtless chili peppers jumping out and doing give-it-away was a hilarious art joke though.

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:27 (ten years ago) link

It was like having a beautiful cake and then having a comically ugly stripper jump out of it.

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:28 (ten years ago) link

that was really the best song they could have done though

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:28 (ten years ago) link

all of the 40/50 year old women I was watching with greatly appreciated shirtless RHCP

SHAUN (DJP), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link

lol, the 35-year-old women I was with were I guess not at that stage of their lives yet, b/c they kept saying "they really need to wear shirts"

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link

i was thinking about how anthony keidis' tattoos were some of the first tattoos i remember actually fixating on and comprehending as an adolescent and there they are 25 years later

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:45 (ten years ago) link

xp: Orly? I missed the game, but here are a couple comments that turned up in my facebook feed via a couple of 35-ish friends:

Anthony Keidis. I so would. Then, now, and always.

I still have the hots for Anthony Kiedis...even in a pair of leggings I would probably wear.

how's life, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:46 (ten years ago) link

the 50 year woman I was with was not impressed

curmudgeon, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:53 (ten years ago) link

50 year old

curmudgeon, Monday, 3 February 2014 15:53 (ten years ago) link

But yes Bruno is a great live performer (I'm just not wowed by his songs).

curmudgeon, Monday, 3 February 2014 16:03 (ten years ago) link

Didn't know he played drums. Dug that. Dug most of his set, actually. But ugh, fuck the fucking RHCPs and their awful, fundamentally unfunky drummer.

Actually, "unfunky" is too kind. He's negative-funky.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 3 February 2014 16:07 (ten years ago) link

I was surprised that I did recognize a couple of BM's tunes from hearing out there in the ether, he's def a good performer/entertainer but an accurate James Brown impression isn't exactly artistic greatness, but he was like fine.

The switch over to RHCP was just weird. I am happy to report my social media feeds erupted into a bunch of Fishbone jokes and it continued when I went over to my local p-word bar afterward.
